Going back for Mel Tucker??

Because there are about 4-6 candidates more qualified and completely realistic.

Yep. Tucker was not a candidate for any other head coaching position, much less a big one in the SEC. So Fulmer offers him with the stipulation that he is fully involved and I am sure Tucker is going to take it in a heartbeat because no other school is giving him this opportunity.

Enough heads still refer to TN as potentially relevant for the fanbase to be expectant of a tremendous splash hire. None of the names on page one except for Kiffin fit that bill. Even after the last three weeks (twelve years if we are honest) we still demand a rock star.

Many on here would rather win the press conference than win the SEC

If it's Tucker, then Fulmer made no effort other than to find a coach that he could control. If it doesn't end well it should be the last thing he ever has to do with this Athletic Department.

Sonknow anything about Tucker to make this assessment?

He has a very good football resume. Experience across a few good college programs and in the NFL.

Sooooooo..let me get this straight. We fired our AD and will owe him some degree of buyout. We will owe Schiano some degree of buyout. Both of these things are partially because Currie tried to hire a guy that literally no else on earth was looking to hire as HC.

....And Mel Tucker is our hire? I am sure we will be getting in a bidding war with ALL the other programs offering him their HC jobs. In the end this roughly $40-50 million dollar coaching search (inlcuding Butch's crews' buyouts as well) nets UT Mel Tucker. What a bargain.

Yea hopefully this is not true.....

Bet he was the one that will let Fulmer choose who he wants as assistants too. Fulmer should have taken the job if it's Tucker. Just wow

The funny thing is, I went to Google him and saw in my history that I'd already googled him previously and had forgotten. So that let's you know how big of an impression he made the first go round.

Mel Tucker? The same Mel Tucker that was in charge of the worst defense in Chicago Bears history just a couple of years ago?

Jesus Christ, Phil. Offer it to Venables what are you doing?

the yankee thing doesnt bother me. the fact that he is a mediocre at best coach is what bothers me. sure, he has experience at all sorts of levels, including the NFL, but his nfl defenses were quite sub par. his stint this year at UGA is by far the most successful one he has been a part of
