Glenn Carson - Current PSU Player

No way these guys are for depth only. If they land any of them expect them to be starters. The talent at Linebacker is just not very good at all right now.

Lathers, Maggitt and AJ Johnson aren't going to be passed by anyone on PSU's team. Certainly not right away.

The jack position would be wide open... but I don't think any unseat Johnson/Maggit... Lathers possibly but you would then lose the heart of your D...

It's hard to say. I would definitely think Maggit and Johnson are starters too.

I think Fortt would be the perfect fit for the Jack. He was a pass rushing specialist last year for PSU and has the perfect build for that spot.

I also think Carson and Mauti could start on the inside in the 3-4. They are more suited for that position than most of the guys Tennessee has now on the inside.

I'm a big fan of Fortt... would be ridiculous to get him...

AJ is a great inside-out LB... gonna disagree on that one...

Which means there is still one position wide open. Maybe I'm the only one who is extremely worried about Lathers durability.

No, I'm right there with you...and given that, beyond our starters, our LB corps is thin, I'd take each and every LB PSU had, nothing wrong with some competition.

However, to expect any of them to come in, learn the system, and start from opening day is a long-shot...definitely by mid-season for some of them though.

I can't argue with you there.

That is why I said most. AJ is the only true impact guy on the inside that I see.

I could see that, but I fear that Herman is the heart of our defense right now. Everything I've read as of late has him really stepping up to lead. Will he be durable? Now that's a good question...

:salute: I thought you said both PSU ILB could come in and play...

They could easily IMO. Running a 3-4 means you have 2 ILB's out there at the same time. That means it is critical you at least have a 3rd guy at ILB that can play around 30 snaps a game spelling the two guys consistently.

Why the hell do so many of you not like Campbell? He's one of my favorite commits.

He doesn't have enough, I'm with you though.

agreed - to have 3 starting quality ILB in a 3-4 is a good thing - they would all get plenty of snaps

I know we need depth at lb but it may not be a good thing to bring in other players at this point just days before fall camp. If a lb were to come in and take Lathers or AJ's spot at this point you'd probably have some pissed off guys that could destroy moral/chemistry. Just sayin.

Competitors... AJ and Lathers are both competitors with dreams of playing at the next level. The cream of the crop always rises to the top.

Worrying about morals/chemistry instead of competing to be the best will only lead to a happy team that gets their butts whipped and is full of moral victories.

In other words....Vandy.....

I like his speed and think he can be a good pash rusher he just looks a little small considering hes older then high school players and had a year in JUCO. Im not against taking him, I just wouldn't turn down a good high school player or a PSU transfer (long term numbers wise) for a JUCO who needs some work. Im by no means no expert.

I really don't care about stars. The coaches know far more then recruiting services. If the evaluators for rivals or scout ect. really were that great of talent scouts they'd have a job at a college evaluating players. I really like the Goeas commit. Just short of immediate contributers Id rather stay away from JUCOs.

Nor am I, and we're all entitled to our opinions. I just love the idea of a 6'5 220ish pass rush specialst at LB.

Below is from Athlon:

Glenn Carson, LB – Carson was steady in his first year as a starter in 2011, recording 74 stops and forcing two fumbles in 13 games. Although he's not flashy, Carson is a steady performer and will figure into the rotation even if he loses his starting job to Khairi Fortt.
Possible Fits: Michigan, Boston College, NC State, Baylor, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Arizona, Arkansas, Auburn
