I think you make Patterson, Stoops, Gundy, and Kelly say no first.
Then drop down to Mullen, Whittingham, McIntyre ( he took over a disaster at Colorado).
They should be aiming for coaches with proven backgrounds running Power 5 programs over hot shot offensive guys at lower levels first IMO.
If they can't get that, then start looking at the Brohm's and Norvells.
I dont want anyone named Jim Bob Cooter. I'm sorry. I just have a hard time supporting someone by that name. Derek Dooley was a stretch and I now know that I should have gone with my gut and not supported anyone named Dooley. But hey, his dad and all that. But this time I'm going with my gut.
I like the sound of the name Tomlin though.
Strong couldn't do it with Texas' recruiting base, so I would have significant concerns with his ability to recruit and win at UT, although he does have some good ties to FL.
I used to have Mike MacIntyre on my list (a week or so ago), but the more you look closely the more you have to wonder. One bowl game in 8 years, 2 top 25 finishes (21 & 17). His teams started off horrible, and he did manage to get each to a 10 win season (SJS & CU); however so far he has never backed up that success. Can he do it.......maybe.........or was it a couple great players here or there. Last year they did go 10-4, but lost to every great team they faced (they did bear 23 ranked Utah).
Mike MacIntyre is .419 coaching for his career, with 5 losing seasons and 2 10 win seasons and 3-2 so far this year. He could be a good coach, but in NO WAY should Tennessee ever take a chance on him.
Some insight into possible coaches. Says Fuente and Kelly are out. They hate the SEC pressure, and that Morris is holding out for TAMU, and Frost for Nebraska. Also, Tennessee will never touch Patrino (Everyone will tell you that). These are all things I've been telling you.
If not Butch, then whom ...? Travis Haney
Only one of the coaches mentioned above has coached in 4 BCS title games (and won 1) and has coached in the college football playoffs twice (and won 1). And he knows how to beat Satban.
Venables is the man. Born winner...pisses excellence.
