Gillespie is out

absolutely not!!!!

He had a great year......and Antone Davis was on the OL in 1990 as well...... Holy Crap...wish he had eligibility left!

Who? Thompson or Antone? I think both would suck right now.

Looks like the new guy is Joe Osovet. Love this move! We know it’s not for WR’s because Johnson was hired over him for that position. We have an overqualified RB’s coach looking for that opportunity. Still would have gone for Kitchings but this is way better than Weinke imo.

You have to take one of two paths. Either Butch neutered assistant coaches, and, therefore, none of them deserve credit for anything. Or as Hurd's immediate supervisor, Gillespie failed with respect to Hurd's status and development as a member of the team.

I don't think that it's that clear cut. Gillespie could be responsible for Hurd's production on the field and Butch could still be responsible for the decision making that made him a cancer to the team.

That's my point. He was still All-SEC.

My bad, thought you were arguing that a running back is only as good as his OL....while I was saying not running backs are created equal and that the better running back would do more than the lesser running back behind the same line.

Looks we have an accord though....it’s all good, Go Vols.

If you hire the right coach to begin with? 1
It sounds simplistic, but its not rocket science. If you don't, there is not some magical number til you finally have it. You either secure that coach or you don't. UT hasn't with their last 3 hires. And this one is yet to be determined.

You first need to define culture. If it is defined by the elements that make up what you are as a program, then yes. We needed a culture change after Dooley. You got one in Jones that didn't equal Dooley but still left a severe gap between you and the top in more than one area. 4-8 is plenty of evidence to support that. Why that culture (Jones) should remain with a new coach at the helm should not even be a question pitched.

As to your last comment. Jones received grace for 2 seasons because he was dealing with a roster that Dooley recruited and developed. What held over didn't all fit Jones' "culture" by evidence of his recruiting and fielding a lot of FR and So in his early seasons. If it made sense then, Im not sure why it doesn't now.

I was talking about using the need to change the culture as an excuse for support losing.

Additionally, most of us on here have no clue as to what needing culture change means to Pruitt. Most blindly accept that whatever it is (1) will work and (2) is a good thing for UT and (3) can be accomplished quickly.

What if he believes the maxims are old school and must go? Would you be happy with that?

Looks like he is going to serve as an Offensive Quality Control assistant not the RB coach

Is it not universally accepted than when you fire a coach you expect changes, if not why did you fire the last guy? If thats true, who gets to decide that since thats a fact it has to be an excuse for losing? It didn't work for Jones if that was his angle, nor did "youth" as a byproduct of that change. He was found out (sooner by some) for what he was and that wasn't relevant.

Why do I need to be "happy" with it? Does that guarantee he's here 4 years from now competing for and winning championships? He doesn't need to recite the maxims religiously to be a good football coach. Neither the Maxims, nor Neyland Stadium, nor any other legacy Neyland left is going anywhere. Does he win? Does he make his own legacy?

Could give a crap about “ maxims” or any other thing... all about winning , it’s ALL that matters

If Pruitt starts winning some of you will come on here and start b!tching about how he is doing it. LOL

B!tchin...finds a...way.
