He and others were kept by Pruitt to have continuity with recruiting. The question I have is whether Pruitt was honest with Gillespie or did he lead Gillespie to think he was there for the long haul and that his contract would be extended.

Nobody should give an ish why or how it happened. New head coach (thank GOD!) wanted a new running backs coach to make his staff and program better. That’s it. And now Gillespie gets $510,000 this year to not coach at Tennessee. Say what you want about the timing, b**ch and moan about it all you want (which we know you will), but this happens routinely is just isn’t a big deal.

As Fulmer correctly said, it’s a big boy business and Gillespie and all others playing in it understand how it works. RG will move on and undoubtedly get a good job within the next year having been paid his full salary until then, and Tennessee is getting an outstanding young coach with much better recruiting ties, who Pruitt is much more comfortable with...which is a win for the staff.

But of course, all your complaining about it just further defines and highlights what a lot of us know about you already.....you’re not a fan of the team, the program, the Vols. You’re still crying because your boy Lyle is no longer Tennessee’s coach, and he was the only reason you’re on VN to begin with. You’ve made that abundantly clear.

People shouldn't get too worked up. A four win season in the SEC gets you fired, whether your name is Gillespie or Christ.

I suspect this has actually been a known thing for a while. Pruitt had a desire for him to leave but Pruitt wanted him on board until recruiting was over.

Also do not get hung up over Gillespie being "terminated".

That just means whatever clause in his contract that makes him more money is enforced where it might not have been if he just quit.

It could have been a quid pro quo between Pruitt and Gillespie. "You stay on until after signing day and I'll make sure you get paid the max you are owed."

Not sure if that's it, but it probably wasn't scandalous.
