Get Behind JG

I’m proud of the kid. This was his coming out party and that blastoff that will be the rest of the season.

Let’s Go Vols!!!!
nah, his coming out party would have been Auburn. I watch his mannerisms and body language... he has some psychological issues and I hope he fets counseling because things will change for him (and the vols) if he does

Hating it’s starting qb is long, time-honored tradition for Vols fans. Think about it.....I won’t go back as far as Bobby Scott, Dewey Warren, Condredge Holloway, Randy Wallace or Jimmy Strearer, because I can’t remember back that far, I was too young, but I’d bet money they got the same treatment.

But Alan Cockrell, Jeff Francis, Randy Sanders, Andy Kelly, Sterling Hinton, Tee Martin, Erik Ainge, Casey Clausen, Jonathan Crompton, Tyler Bray, Justin Worley, Josh Dobbs....and now Jarrett Guarantano. All have been hated on, all have seen Vols fans demand they be benched/transfer, etc, etc. Hell, even Manning was hated on as a freshman, and even today many Vols fans, when discussing his Tennessee career, first thing they’ll bring up is “he never beat Florida”. I’m sure TRob got blasted too.

Does JG deserve plenty of criticism for his play this year as a 4th year guy at Tennessee, yes. Some of his play has just been indefensible, no doubt. But look at the deranged, irrational crap so many spew, even when he does good things. It’s ridiculous.

Truth is, put Shrout and Maurer and Bailey and whoever else in there at QB in the coming years, they’re all gonna get the ire of the Vols fans who have this irrational obsession with “hating” whoever the present starting QB is at Tennessee.

You mean like every other team not named Clemson? Unless the QB is an absolute beast and shows no weaknesses, fans will find something to gripe about. It’s part of being a starting QB for a big program. I’m sure even Tua has gotten hate and he’s only lost 1 game his entire career. Not saying it’s good, but it’s certainly not exclusive to UT fans.

As long as the receivers don’t continue to overrun their routes
So because JG is slow and the game moves to fast for him our WR should slack off? In college football you have an average of 3 seconds to get the ball off and hit your WRs in stride, the great ones know where the ball is going before its snapped. Don't believe me? Ask one of the greatest offensive minds of all time, David Cutcliffe

I would love nothing more than for JG to have a Carson Palmer esque midseason JR year turnaround to be topped off with a stellar SR year........ And all the JG naysayers to eat crow......

But the probability of that happening is pretty low.....

As a matter of fact I am now even more inclined to believe what I posted in another thread; BM only getting 3 passing opportunities was by design. Pruitt & Chaney realize we need a plan B by Florida in case either JG the OL or both implode early in the first half like last year. If/when calamity strikes we'll insert BM and try to slow the game down with the RPO.

When I posted earlier I thought that strategy was strictly for the FL game but now I'm beginning to think it's meta for the season.
I could realistically see Alabama being JG's last start.

I'm not one to believe Pruitt is a complete idiot(aside from being dumb enough to be a bammer😀). Consider JG was the best passer all last spring and preseason, and was/still is the best passer so far. This year, unlike last year Pruitt isn't willing to try and protect JG. Live by the sword/Die by the sword.

First game GSU - fool me once shame on you. Second game BYU - fool me twice shame on me. What do you do when you can't win with your best passer while the underclassmen are learning the system? Third game - blue print for life without JG.

JG's on notice he's playing for his job every time he takes the field. Maybe JG has felt too secure in his status as starter and he'll respond positively to the pressure knowing Chaney & Pruitt will change scheme to way more RPO until BM or Shrout develops as a passer if they have to. I'm starting to see BM's lack of passing opportunities as more a vote of confidence than as a slight or an indicator that JG's job is uncontested.

He played a decent game today. Next week will tell the tale on the true ability of JG.

He really needs to play extremely well for us to even compete with Gators.

Enough trolling man.

You had a good run.
Not to mention about the only hint of criticism JG & Calloway receive is neither have true break away speed.

Over running thows. That's either special or top tier trolling.

Yeah, bad anxiety, imo. He locks up, can't go through his progressions, recognize blitzes, etc.

He’s played it well. But given away his hand at this point.

Master troll or 4th grader?

He had a great game no doubt. Maybe he can do it next week. Or question is why didn’t he do it the 1st 2 weeks? We lost the BYU game because he couldn’t make a TD pass on time and threw the ball late multiple times that could have resulted in points.

Not hate...just truth.

He is average at his best.

That is all he ever will be.

If this were a talented team, he would be the rate limiting step.

Welcome to reality

I admire the ridiculous optimism...but this was UT friggin Chattanooga....and JG's 1st pass shoulda been picked off. He played a good game...but no way is this a "shut up the haters forever" game.
