Get Behind JG

I’m proud of the kid. This was his coming out party and that blastoff that will be the rest of the season.

Let’s Go Vols!!!!

You must be either 6 or 86. He certainly played better and with more poise than he did in the first two games this season - but there was no party coming out or otherwise nor was there any blastoff. To suggest that is borderline crazy - he is a redshirt junior and has started for 2 or 3 years, and the vast majority of games he has started we have lost and he has played poorly. Today the competition was Chattanooga. It was Chattanooga. It's like the guy who hits 4 home runs in batting practice but strikes out twice and grounds out once in the "real" game. Let's see how he plays against Florida, Georgia, etc. before you have your blastoff.

I am calling this a premature blastoff.

Let me sum this up:

JG seems like a nice kid. Obviously intelligent to have graduated early, and clearly tough by the punishment he hats taken and bounced back despite of.

That said, he just isn’t an SEC starting QB.

That’s not hating. I really wish he was much much better because he is really all we have. But he isn’t an SEC level QB.

You won’t be saying that next week.

He's still a tick late, but much better. He has to trust himself; all his reads were good today. We need him to get there because behind him it looks pretty bleak.

100% better than the last two weeks. I am still mad as Hell they started so shockingly poor, but it is progress for the week. Today was like a 6A HS team picking on a 1A team that is lucky to win 3 games a year. SEC schedule starts next week. They best reach down deep and man up because there is only own more lower considered team on the schedule.

He went 7/8 today in a half They only let him throw 8 passes. Hardly a coming out party lol let him look good next week against a good opponent. Glad he may have got a little confidence out of today but to say it was a coming out party...Not even sure what to say to that

Let’s face it last real passer we had was Bray. Well spoken quarterback, country grammar coach or vice versa, Tn is still 1-2 and may not win an Sec game.

Tn has played so horribly bad for three+ years how can any backups get enough snaps to get real experience? They’ve had to fight in just about every game with “starters.”

I've been as frustrated as anyone on this board about JG the past few years.

But this kid needs our support.

Erik Ainge has been talking about how there is no better QB on this team - and I think we saw that for ourselves today.

He's our QB.
And our merciless criticism of him can't be helping him.
You heard the comments from the announcers today that Trey Smith had to tell JG to stop being so critical of himself.

Sure, criticism comes with the position.
Gotta put your big boy pants on if you want to play big time college football.
But for me, I'd love for JG to be able to say that VolNation was behind him and never gave up on him.

EVERYONE who has a glimpse behind the scenes that I've I heard speak to this say the kid works his ass off.

Proud to be a Vol.

Florida’s defense will give JG problems. A good defense with speed causes the play to develop much faster, surpassing JG’s diagnostic capabilities.

This was against against a DII school. It was a glorified practice. Yeah, he looked better. Against guys who, for the most part, never received an SEC offer. If he had done that to Mississippi State? South Carolina? Somebody like that? I would help you spike and drink the Orange Kool-Aid. We would be drunken monkeys swinging from the trees. But next week, he goes up against guys who got offers and official visits from every SEC school. Running with their back up QB. If he plays against them with the poise he showed this week, we might have a chance. But we ain't launching rockets over this. Keep it real.
