You've got it right HV. UT has had plenty of super fast guys returning punts and kickoffs and still gotten mediocre results. We've had guys back there faster than Coker that havent been able to get it done. If it were all about speed, UT would have some of the best special teams in the nation.

Yeah, too bad Foster couldn't outrun the kicker or he would have scored. I wish our players weren't too fast to tackle. We'd be something else.

I agree and I certainly don't like seeing the #1 and the #2 tailbacks back there.

It's a slippery slope though. Most Tennessee fans are discouraged with special teams, yet they don't want any good players playing special teams because of the injury risk.

I guess I'm different. I've always disagreed with this logic.

Guys can get hurt running or receiving just as easily as on kick/punt return.

I'm all for putting the guy in that gives us the best chance of breaking a big play. Special teams can be a valuable asset if coaches would put effort into it. Putting the best player in makes a big imapct. If Foster is that guy, leave him in.

I've never understood why some think special teams aren't worth your best athletes. A good special teams can be that last strength that wins several games.

Gerald Jones needs to be the guy in the QB package, not LT.

I agree. Lucas Taylor just got done with a 100 yard receiving game. Let's bench him for the guy that rode the pine that game and hasn't played a down of college football.

Voice of reason. I hope Taylor does well again today.

No one was suggesting that Taylor should not be on the field as a receiver (in this thread, at least). How many yards he has as a receiver doesn't speak at all to his ability to play in the QB spot. If you want to argue that point, it would be more effective to bring up his pass in the Florida game than his 100 yards receiving.

:good!:
Foster had a long return against Cal did he not?

he has good hands, but slow! he had good blocks, but why not have our speed back there every week. You all know Arian has had his injuries every year as well...the odds of him getting banged up on special teams could bring another injury. He did very well against Cal - kept us in the game at times.:good!:

still no action for Gerald Jones.... and I have no idea why. His hammy must be worse than we know about.

he got in the game yesterday did he not?

Yeah he was in. He needs to see more action, but it's hard when Rogers and Taylor are moving the chains.

Said it in another thread but I really think this Rogers kid is going to be a good player here at UT. He reminds me so much of Faulkner it is not funny. On the Jones note, can he play DB? OR can Rogan play DB?

Rogan is listed as a DB. Jones was brought in to be a WR. No need to put him in a new position and bury him further on the depth chart.

I'm glad that Taylor and Rogers are finally getting it done, that is awesome, but it's still southern miss, and everyone including Fulmer knows that they aren't big weapons. Jones needs to step up and take Briscoe's spotm, and bust some big ones. Two balanced recievers and a big play guy in the slot will translate into a very effective passing attack.

The difference between Rogers and Faulkner is that the latter was one of the fastest players on the team.
