Gerald Jones Eagles vs Steelers

When a player starts recruiting kids away from their alma mater, they deserve to be banned for life. You're kidding yourself if you think he stayed "100000000000 percent committed" to Tennessee while he's recruiting kids to go to Auburn with Towel Waver.

Again, speculation. You sure a taking a harsh stance that's based on hearsay and speculation. It's 13 year old girlie he said she said quality information and you're calling the guy an AU alum. Grow up.

Tennessee could have said to hell with him when he was busted smoking weed in a car with a recruit. Don't give me this bs that he did us some kind of favor by sticking around. Tennessee did more for him than he could EVER do in return. Loyal to Trooper is correct. Loyal to Tennessee? Nope. Wait , I take that back ...He loved Tennessee when Trooper was there , so I guess Trooper wins on both accounts. Jones knows what he did. He did it thinking it would never get out. He failed. I'm sure he told you the same story he told the media. The truth hurts. So does Tiny.

Solid post.

Pure ignorance. Get over the GW thing, talk about crying over spilled milk. It's only natural to want to blame someone in a case like the Gabe Wright situation, we lost him, it hurt, BUT don't blame that on GJones. You weren't there you don't know what was said. So for you to feel this way about a TRUE Vol (unlike yourself) is ridiculous and really shows your ignorance.

That came across as the type of case where Taylor straight took advantage of Jones. Certainly a poor decision by Jones to take the call, but I'm sure it was a tricky situation in which he was put on the spot. I understand being upset but completely dismissing everything he's done for UT and even insulting him is a bit much, especially considering the lack of real details.

I highly doubt Jones intentionally recruited Wright to Auburn for Taylor.

A voice of reason. thank you.

After the crap he pulled with Trooper in the G. Wright recruitment. Screw Jones.:censored: VFL my azz.:censored:

I was wondering who would be the first to point that out but I could care less, he will be a practice squad or waived once Maclin comes back. He does look good though.

Hope the Eagles put him on Roster. We will miss him more than most realize this season. He was a clutch 3rd down guy.

Allegedly? Bring some facts. Otherwise you are believing what you want to believe.

There is no allegedly to whether or not there was a call.

Jones admitted on Knoxville radio to having talked to Wright on signing day after Wright called him at Trooper Taylor's urging. I listened to the interview myself. I think it was on the Drive with Hooker who was still here then. I often blur which stations the interviews are held on because they tend to interview the same people around the same time, so I can't be 100% certain it was Hooker and not Hyams that did the interview, and Jones might have been interviewed by both anyway.

Jones said he answered some questions Wright asked about what happened here during Jones playing days, specifically what happened during all the coaching changes. Jones said he gave honest answers, but did not speak badly about the program.

A lot of insiders said the phone call was a lot more negative than Jones claims. Wright was a hard lean up until right at the signing and most of the incoming class that had spoken with Wright and signed with UT were under the impression he was going to sign with UT. So believe what you will regarding the tone of the call.

Several people who claim(ed) to know Richardson have said Richardson got a similar call or was encouraged to call Jones by Taylor. The substance of those claims are fairly consistent, but the details are scant regarding any contact Richardson received other than Richardson took it as much more of a negative on Auburn's part than a positive.

Believe what you will from there. That there was a conversation of some sort between Jones and Wright initiated by Trooper Taylor prior to Wright signing a LOI to Auburn is certain. The tone, process that led to it, and the Richardson call are the subject of rumor and speculation.

I cannot support Jones in this either simply because I can't understand for ANY reason why he would have a conversation with a recruit and a coach at another school. I could understand it if he and Trooper were merely having a conversation, but when you add in the fact that a recruit (who is trying to choose between the 2 schools represented in the conversation) who hasn't made his choice yet it leaves all kinds of doubt in my mind and it has too others whether you were his coach, parent, VOL fan, master P, and/ or diddy combs. When Jones (if he was set-up by trooper) heard the third party, he should've immediately hung up/ separated himself from both. He chose not too and continued to talk. Tiny then commits to us and says the exact same thing happened during his recruitment. Why would Tiny lie? What would he gain from doing so? And even if he did, it still doesn't take away the previous!

Verdict: Jones not VFL!

Jones did nothing wrong. yall are a bunch of homers

So you are ok with a current player at UT speaking with a recruit we are after about the positives of another school in contention with said recruit? If you are, that's fine, but in my personal opinion that is a no no and loses respect from me. At the very least, GJ should have declined to speak with him and execised a bit of discretion. He did not necessarily have to speak ill of UT, but saying anything that would put UT at a disadvantage is not something that I would expect one of our players to do. That's my opinion of it all.

The motive for Jones was Trooper. The towel-waiving, chest-bumping future janitor recruited him here, iirc. The people who are Jones' apologists can have their point of view and call it loyalty, but he lost my respect during this fiasco.

Even fielding a conversation with a potential recruit about the positives of a rival who just so happens to be recruiting said recruit is the very essence of stabbing your university in the back.

jones told the recruit the truth and he's an adult so he can say what he wants. so go cry in another thread. this ones about his touchdowns last night not your cry baby opinions on something the happened last year.

I think Jones looked pretty good last night. Unfortunately, it was against guys that will all be cut next week. The Eagles are only going to keep at maxinmum 6 WR's on the roster. I don't see how he's going to crack the top 6 this year. That isn't to say he won't wind up on a roster somewhere, just probably not in Philly.

This thread reminds me why I spend most of my time in the recruiting forum.

The intellect as well as the maturity here is profound.
