George Mac

The way he calmly moved around in the pocket, then got outside, and still delivers a strike…He will be the starter next year.
Mac should be the number two qb now or maybe even the starter, nothing bad about JA, he is doing good, but this is his last year. And I think Mac would do just as well from what I seen Sat. and he is a freshman.

Watching him in the 4th quarter against etsu bench players tells you all this?

It will hold true for eternity that there is no better player in the world than a backup qb

If he is the guy next year, then Faizon is transferring after the season

I think Heupel is going to go with the higher ceiling freshman in Faizon. Has to make his choice this off-season, because the loser isn’t sticking around to sit behind another freshman

Plus Mac doesn’t look like a guy that has the genes/metabolism to magically add 30-40 lbs before next season

I dont see how we can pay the #1 QB in the country a couple million dollars a year to ride the bench 2 years in a row...
Exactly

That’s because he will be the starter next year or transfer at the end of next season

He will be the starter, I would bet money on it. They aren’t bringing him here to sit on the bench behind another freshman, because no top QB would do that long term in this era

I agree that whichever one doesn't start will transfer. I really like Hype as our hc, and would not trade him for any other coach, If he has a weakness imo it is in evaluating qb. The qb with the highest ceiling isn't allways the best choice. Milton and Nico both had a high ceiling, It's how they perfrom in the game that matters, not what they have the potential to be. Just my opinion. And Mac wants to be here, not just for nil money, to me that should be considered if it is close in the competition.

Yesterday, what I saw said: Aguilara #1, GMac #2, Phillips #3, Merk #4. Having said that, I think it may be a little early to write off Merk.

Back to GMac, he reminded me so much of Manning. Seemed to have good wheels though. Really nice touch on passes, except for that one down the sideline. He definitely looks to have a future. I didn't really notice his light weight like others did. Maybe coaches are just waiting for him to put on weight, knowing he couldn't easily survive the SEC right now.

We really don't look to have any major worries at qb. All 4 can play (making assumptions Phillips is a decent passer). Competition is a good thing.

And honestly it doesn’t seem all that close. It’s a bit of a head scratcher to me as to why George isn’t the clear backup but maybe Heupel is just letting Merk have QB2 for now to keep him from entering the December portal? If Joey gets hurt and Merk transfers we’d enter the playoffs with 1 undersized true freshman QB. Not ideal.
I think JH wants to have Merk's knowledge of the offense, if JA got dinged up...more of a comfort level against hostile competition.....
Agree GM got the better arm probably not as ready as Merk vs. SEC level defenses.

^^^ I love G-Mac and think he has a bright future but the bench players for ETSU would be lucky to beat one of our local high schools.

I do nor know what discussions Heupel may have had with any of his QBs, so I refuse to comment on what he should or shouldn't do. He is a smart coach and I have NO problems letting him do what he is paid to do.

Just going by what has been told to me...
Pavia’s Timeline:
Graduated Volcano Vista HS 2020.
Led NM Military 2020-2021.
Led NM State 22-23
Leads Vandy 24-25

Seems like Aguilar may have another year… not sure. 🤔

One thing that may factor in is Aguilar is playing as a graduate 🧑‍🎓

So I'm counting two prior years at D1 plus this year. We’ll see. I’m not trying to beat a drum, just curious. I know Heupel is somewhat a “gold digger”! 🤣😉🤙🏼🧡

Here is what your missing.

The JC / eligiiblity ruling was for the 2025 season only. If a player would have exhausted their eligiiblity when JC counted toward that eligiiblity in 2024 (and Joey would have done that), then players were granted the extra year (2025). Joey is using that this year.

wording:

The most significant NCAA JUCO rule change in late 2024 was a temporary waiver granting an additional year of eligibility to JUCO athletes whose eligibility would have expired after the 2024-2025 season, resulting from the court case of Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia. The NCAA is also planning an appeal to the court ruling, but has implemented this temporary waiver, which applies only to those who have already completed at least one year at a non-NCAA institution and are still within their five-year eligibility clock.

JUCO no longer counts against eligibility. He played 2 years at JUCO then 2 at App State. He still has another year left I’m pretty sure

In response to a recent legal ruling the NCAA has implemented a temporary eligibility waiver for JUCO athletes. Here are the key points:

Who It Affects: The waiver applies only to current or former JUCO athletes whose eligibility was set to expire. These athletes are being granted one additional year of eligibility.Who It Does Not Affect: Incoming JUCO players (e.g., high school seniors entering JUCO this fall) are not included in this waiver.
These new JUCO athletes will follow the standard eligibility rules as outlined by the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)Why This Matters: The waiver allows eligible JUCO athletes to extend their college playing careers. It also impacts how four-year college programs recruit from the JUCO transfer pool, particularly for the 2025–2026 seasons.

This ruling is not a permanent rule change and is currently only applicable for the 2025 season in light of the legal case.
