George Floyd Protest/Riots

The transition can be gradual, for the 20th time “disbanding” doesn’t mean the police vanish overnight
The headline which is designed to be sensational and attention-grabbing is the reason for the knee jerk. The articles clearly show the intent and reasoning behind the clickbait-ish title.

Well you didn’t get any smarter on your time off ... It’s liberals you goober . Your party controls all of these urban hot spots . Your party’s leadership and policies has created this mess .

There are already plenty of people working on “getting the house in order,” that’s not something that needs to be acknowledged every single time we discuss police brutality
Mmm..might want to try harder.

And it should be brought up every time because it seems to be lost of a lot of people that most of the problems are self inflicted.

Understood. Not sure how a politician (who inherently seeks power and control) interests are served by reducing control. Again, I don't think this will end up being a law-and-order vacuum in Minneapolis.

Respect to you for actually trying to understand what this means instead of intentionally mischaracterizing

Interesting take. Using the murders of black citizens in Chicago is a racist approach. Would seem to me only racist if they were encouraging more murders and not bringing awareness to the current murders.

My understanding of Chicago is most of the shootings are related to gang disputes over turf for drug business.
That would be correct.

So it's the "liberals" fault this cop killed a black man? The time off was the smart thing to do when the typical responses are like yours.

Was it a liberal city , ran by liberals , under liberal leadership , liberal policies , liberal training , did the liberal leaders refuse to fire or press charges against him in any of his past problems ? Oh no , no it can’t be a liberal leadership problem because ... liberals always look for somebody else to blame . You should take more time off because you still can’t handle straight up facts .

No one's saying to turn it over to anyone. Just to defund and dismantle.
IYO that's a net improvement?

I am pretty libertarian, but dismantling the police force makes any pretense of the government protecting all our rights impossible. Good bye justice system as a whole. Better hope your neighborhood Karen with a beef is more concerned about your rights than the cops are.

I am wondering about where you see this line of thinking ending?

IMO, it will lead to changing of the guard that is more in step with the politicians and their views. Agreed, I don't view this as completely abolishing all LEOs because that's political suicide.

Have any ideas been brought up for discussion regarding the replacement strategy?

In your mind they should be protesting against liberals and not the Justice System that has allowed this in every state? But go ahead and champion for armed protesters when the government tells you to stay home to stop the spread of a virus.

Well the liberals run the city so they're in charge of hiring and training this cop. If this is a guy who never should have been hired and/or wasn't trained properly then...connect the dots.

Possibly so. Though the current restrictions in place within Chicago over an invidudual's 2A rights certainly are not helping the matter.

They will just rebrand the police, maybe even rename the force to something like "community safety patrol" and put a toothless oversight board together. No dang way will the politicians give up their only means of keeping the populace under their thumb.

Training, policies and the ignoring of complaints were done by democrats who have been in charge of Minneapolis for decades.
Governor- black and Democrat
Mayor - Democrat
Attorney General - Black and Democrat
District Attorney- Democrat
Chief - Black, nominated by a Democrat

Who is to blame for Minneapolis issues?

I had no idea all liberals should be blamed for the actions of a registered Republican. If those dots connect for you, there is no way you can comprehend the big picture.

I’m my mind liberals are idiots for voting in these liberal leaders , in all these urban cities , watching them install their liberal policies , bitching about the results and then re-electing the same ones over and over again until it gets so bad that the population burns down their on cities that they created by allowing their chosen leaders to do what they hate . Now being a non liberal looking on from the outside , it seems to me there would be an easy fix for most of these problems .. but I don’t think like a progressive liberal so I’ll just sit back and watch this little social experiment unfold .

That was because people were angry that someone videotaped a white dude kneeling on a black dude's kneck for 8 minutes, while his white buddies stood by and watched. People were angry. The people who were looting have been and are being actively shamed by the protesters. The violence is over- with the exception of some occasional police brutality. If there were rules which prevented this from happening there never would have been looting in the first place, so let's just make that happen. Make sense?
Rules to prevent this from happening? Like laws? Like the ones where he, and his buddies, have been charged, arrested, and being investigated with?

Our rules, aka laws, dont account for precrime prevention. You know that whole innocent until proven guilty thing.
