Oh, you're right. We actually should have looked at Murray State's head coach, since our resources are so much better that he would obviously be successful.

Way to just try to pick a name out of air to bring into the conversation. Dooley has an SEC pedigree.

The resources argument was dumb to begin with. Moving up to the big time makes coaches much more likely to fail, and you're arguing the exact opposite.

Seems like we just had a coach come through here that says that's not the case always.

I'm seriously trying to understand why the majority of people on here are so excited about him. That's why I brought that up.

And of course there was no real opposition to him before he was hired. Nobody except for a couple of people even knew who he was.

You may not believe me, but my reactions to Dooley and Kiffin's hires were identical: what was MH thinking? But I gave Kiffin a chance (largely based on his staff), so I'll give Dooley a chance too (also somewhat based on his staff). Dooley is way ahead on likability, but coaching ability is yet to be seen.

Also, I have no idea what majority (at least here) is excited about Dooley. Every single thread seems like someone's saying that there's no chance he'll succeed.

Until he got to the SEC, and the home of almost unlimited resources and TV coverage, what did Nick Saban do?? I'll give you a hint, NOT JACK.
Not an easy task to win at a garbage program which is second in it's own state and competes with far better programs for recruits. He left the program as a 2 loss team.

In his case, he had more success at Richmond than he probably ever will at BG...

He's already got a winning record in D-1 football as a HC. I think he's going to have a good team up there in a few years.

I'm just saying that all the big coaches start being relevant somewhere. Saban became who he is today because of LSU, not Michigan State.

I'd rather have Dooley than Chizik. I don't think Dooley will succeed. I'm extremely confident that Chizik won't. Why do you fire Tuberville and hire someone that made Iowa State worse? Auburn averaged 11 wins in the 4 years before 2008, and had a bad year due to a bad OC. With Malzahn as OC, Tubs would have won 10 games this year.

Yeah, but he had proven himself much more than either Chizik or Dooley. I'm not using that to say that's why he's better than them, but his resume was certainly better when he was hired by LSU.

Looking at his assistants, he will, IMO. He's got the best recruiters of the South, IMO. Curtis Luper, Trooper Taylor, and Tracy Rocker are as STUD recruiters as you can get, IMO.

I don't disagree with that, but Saban made his money at LSU. I feel Dooley will do the same here at UT.

Malzahn will be gone soon, and recruits will soon see that the past season wasn't really overachieving at all, and they won't be able to sell immediate playing time. He'll be trying to recruit players to a mediocre team which is second in it's own state. They'll never win the West, in my opinion.

I didn't know Auburn was in the East. :p

Malzahn isn't going anywhere soon, IMO. He'll work at Auburn for a minimum of 5 years, then test the HC waters, IMO.

Guess that's why I'm so sure they'll never win. :p

Still doesn't really change my predictions, and I think he's overrated. It's interesting to watch, but I think we'll see less success, at least compared to what we expect.

I think there is a possibility of 10 wins this year for them, if Cam develops mentally for them.

I'm not as high on Cam Newton as some seem to be.

Auburn is the BEST place he could have went, IMO. Malzahn will utilize his athleticism and create mismatches for the opposing defenses. I don't think that Cam will throw a lot, but I think they will have a great option coming into the season. Gonna suck for defenses to defend, IMO.

Yea, I do think that the Aubies was the best place he could have gone. He's a pretty big guy with some athleticism to boot, but all the footage I've seen of him just doesn't lead me to believe he can be anything big time.

Chizik was the DC for Auburn's undefeated team in 2003. He went to Texas as the co-DC the following year and went undefeated again, winning NC in that classic game against USC. He went 5-17 at Iowa State and the Auburn faithful had same reaction many UT fans are having. But he's done a hell of a job at Auburn, and Iowa State went bowling last year with his recruits. We should keep an eye on what LaTech does this season with Dooley's recruits.

you better ride a short bus wherever you go tomorrow. I love Dooley but you've got to be kidding bout watching out for LA Tech. ....if you were then i apologize

When I saw Auburn hired Chizik I was surprised as anyone. He definitely has some of the best recruiters on his staff. I could see 10 wins for Auburn this year....I for one like the Dooley hire. I think he will do good things here. He managed to get to good WR recruits late in the game. I don't expect much this season but in a few years I could see us back in the mix for the SEC title.
