Auburn's head coach Gene Chizik coached at a smaller school before taking the Auburn job. I remember hearing that his record was awful at his previous school. Can anyone give me some more information about his past? Obviously I am not asking this for no reason at all. We got a head coach from a smaller school whose record isn't outstanding. Maybe I am trying to get a comparison between Gene Chizik's and Derek Dooley's resume. Thanks. GBO.

Thanks chavis. Now maybe we can close this thread or move it to around the NCAA forum. Nice job.

Chizik was the DC for Auburn's undefeated team in 2003. He went to Texas as the co-DC the following year and went undefeated again, winning NC in that classic game against USC. He went 5-17 at Iowa State and the Auburn faithful had same reaction many UT fans are having. But he's done a hell of a job at Auburn, and Iowa State went bowling last year with his recruits. We should keep an eye on what LaTech does this season with Dooley's recruits.

Chizik came from Iowa State, and was at Auburn before then.

Thanks. Can you tell me (cause I don't follow any program like I do TN) what the difference is in the program that both took over. I.E. talent that was at the school at the time of the hire? I know ours isn't that great. I was more wondering about Auburn's. Did they have more talent last year when Chizik took the job than we have now? I know that people are happy in Auburn with the way last season went and I was trying to see if the same turnaround is possible in Knoxville this year.

Most thought Chizik was a freaking joke of a hire. A couple seasons later, he has things turned the right direction. Two things to remember:

1. Auburn was left much better stocked when Tuberville got the boot, than when Kiffin left UT.

2. I can't quote the exact date of his hire of the top of my head, but I'm fairly certain it wasn't weeks before signing day like Dooley.

I was one that thought Auburn was FREAKING NUTS for hiring Chizik...which is one of the main reasons I am not hating on CDD. I'm not saying that one thing has to do with the other, but it did show me how just because you don't make a splash hire, doesn't mean you can't enjoy success on the field. We shall see I suppose.

Dooley was the TE Coach and RC for Saban. He was obviously THE main ingredient as Saban’s recruiting has been on a steep decline since Dooley left. Oh wait....

What success? That 13-24 career record impress you? Chizik will never win as long as Ted Roof’s on that staff. Chizik lost to Kentucky last year and his recruiting will drop off BIG TIME once the immediate playing time pitch is gone and even more when Gus Bus is gone.

Carrol's recruiting really took a step backwards didn't it? Oh wait....

Yes. And I didn’t see them in any NC games once CLK was gone, did you? Anyone who thinks Orgeron and Kiffin’s departure didn’t hurt USC doesn’t follow football too closely.

8-5 last year, Lot's of big recruits... My point was only that it wasn't a complete failure like I, me, the one I was talking about, thought it was going to be. Given that my crystal ball must not be as clear as yours I still think the jury is out. I am not predicting Chizik success, merely that my initial reaction was premature.
