Gee, Chuck Smith...

I think skeeter is Chuck Smith. Dooley found out he was the leak and got rid of him.

From all the "stuff" being posted here about Coach Smith it sure was handeled professionally.

Wish Coach Dooley had been our AD a couple of years ago.Maybe he'll end up being HC and AD....was at his last job.

had so much more impact on the program than Ed Orgeron. All of the people heralding what an upgrade hiring a glorified personal trainer was really nailed that one.

Gabe Wright knew Smith was gone and is at Auburn now, who would you rather have Wilcox or Smith...or Troop, or R.Garner? I"ll go with the recruiting edge, which Wilcox, who realllllly wants to be here (levying TEXAS for a paise raise or not)?, is not fond of. Fresh blood is great, but someone has to educate and instill Tennessee Heritiage and tradition besides Conredge Hollaway. Will miss Smith!

To me it shows that Dooley is willing to make tough calls that might be unpopular to be as competitive as possible.

I believe it shows the man is completely driven to prove himself at the highest level. Exactly what we need.

Making the tough call is his job....to me how he did it was what impressed me.

1 of my Fulmer concerns was that he was too nice and wouldn't get rid of anybody..... player or coach.

Being a Boss is a TOUGH job.

I was told by a player on the team that he did not learn a thing from Chuck and that he learned more under Ed in one year than his previous two.
The first part of that statement doesn't come as any surprise. If true, the second part is simply a testament to how good O is as a defensive line coach. The guys he took over from at UT were pretty damn good.

I'd take Dan Brooks back tomorrow without blinking an eye.

I hope there's no bad blood between the two. A spited coach can always come back to hurt a team in NCAA investigations. Best of luck to CCS

Anyone that knows Chuck will know that he's all about Chuck and what's best for him.

Rumor is that he might be after the D line coaching position for the Titans.

Chuck wants more $$$ and more time off and he wants the extra $$$ that he was making with his own coaching/training consulting business.

He was never good material for college coaching and the huge time commitment and less $$$ that takes.

This is actually a blessing in disguise with Peter Sirmon taking over as LB coach too.

PS was a coach on the field for Jeff Fisher and the Titans before injuries cut his playing days short and he's always been a avid student of the game so he'll be a great LB coach and we're lucky to have him.

These 2 coaching changes will make us better than we were last season as we'll all see eventually.

VFL...GO BIG ORANGE!!!

And give Dooley props for making a swift call to make an improvement instead of letting it fester.

Sirmon was very valuable last year. So much so that Dooley wanted him full time. This is an upgrade.

Didn't realize what was going on with CCS or how good Sirmon was, but if all this is true (which I imagine it is), I'm glad Dooley made that call, which, as people I quoted below say, had to be extremely tough for him. That's the kind of thing we've seen coaches not do in the past (Fulmer, Richt), and it's gotten them into trouble.

Some may not credit Dooley because he is the head man and this is simply part of his responsibility, but this couldn't have been an easy situation for him. By most accounts he has had to deal with it for some time now. He deserves a ton credit for his decisiveness and quick action and for holding on to his DC as a result.

The importance of having both coordinators back for Dooley's second season cannot be overstated.

To me it shows that Dooley is willing to make tough calls that might be unpopular to be as competitive as possible.

If it were true about him being responsible for having the right players on the field then I have no problems him being let go. Honestly whoever was in charge was completely oblivious to their job duties. Looked like someone got caught up in the game and forgot they were in charge of something. As far as his actual coaching goes. I dont know. Malik Jackson was a beast for his size inside. I dont know that it had anything to do with CCS. As far as him being better than CEO. I dont think its a fair comparison. COE has much more experience. I think most of us hated COE after what happened and wanted to think CCS was an improvement. As far as recruiting maybe. As far as true coaching its doubtful.

The coaching staff has to be a team just like the players to get the job done. We have heard whispers for months about the rub between Wilcox and Smith. Wilcox wears the bigger hat on the staff and my guess is Dooley let his Coordinator make the final call.

Great coaches delegate and this was your result. I wish CCS the best and we move on. Those of you using the VFL for an argument must be Fulmerites because that is what created this mess we are currently in.

GO VOLS!!

I believe it was intended that way, not an indictment of Brooks, but a testament to how good O was/is.
