We should not pretend that Steele will be named the HC. Then again, it would not surprise me at all if UT goes ahead and hires assistants for the future coach. All we need to do is look at how they have screwed our previous hires up and ask if we expect anything different. Sad but true!

Doesn't make a bit of sense.... unless the new coach has already been chosen.... which would likely mean the new AD has been chosen... which suggests all of this was previously planned... which suggests a level of competence we've never seen from UT concerning this kind of change.

I look at like this you can take:
A]Steele for a year and let the investigation play out then see where we stand

OR

B]Have a smaller pool of decent coaches willing to take the job without knowing what the sanctions will be.

People can throw a fit but realistically we’re in a much worse situation than USC was years ago. Top tier job but sanctions were looming and they got to their third or fourth person down the list in Kiffin. We’ve got sanctions pending, we fired and didn’t pay our last coach, we’re known for having meddlesome boosters and incompetent athletic dept administration.

Tennessee is a fantastic job and it’s a fantastic location but you have to clean things up first. Deal with some issues and then get the right people in to turn this around. The right people aren’t coming in right now imo with all that’s going on.

All that said I hope I’m wrong, go Vols.

Hell...just go ahead and hire Malzahn and be done with it.

Give him and Steele some extra cheddar and name Steele an associate HC to smooth over any bad blood.

Could do worse than becoming Auburn East for awhile.

Or maybe they already know who they gonna hire or have already may be in talks with the future HC and just waiting for the New AD to be hired so he can announce e new coach so it looks like he hired them when we all know the boosters already have there person lined up!!
