Well, it's here. after all the pre season prognostication, position break downs, personnel evaluations, coaching evaluations, comparisons to other teams and basic debating over who will do what.......GAME WEEK is finally here.

Taking in to account all the reading, posting and general conversation we've all had up to this point about this year's edition of the Volunteers, it's now that time before the season where you've done enough of the above to have it in your head figured out what this years team's expectations will be, to only find out that your heart winds up taking over.

So, as i sit here on Tuesday before the 1st game of the season, i find myself completely excited about the start of the season, for a lot of reasons, but as was described in one of the blogs today, hope rings eternal. there's nothing by way of results to deter the thought that your team can do it.

And it's no different for me or Tennessee this year. Even knowing what i know, or at the very least what i think to be true, my expectations still are very high. My enthusiasm is very high. and as many of you probably would agree, i can come off sometimes playing both sides of the fence when it comes to this program, where it is currently, where it's going and where it's been over the past few years. And while i've come to the side of seeing the reality of the situation, which is pessimistic, let's face it, there still is plenty of reason to have hope for this year. and with a win Saturday, just like last year, that hope then starts to be come a glimmer of reality. ANd just as quicly, a loss sends fans in to what will seem like a season long tailspin of doubt and crushed dreams, only to be redeemed by winning not only the next game, but the next "THE GAME".

so i just take this time to say, i'm so glad the season is about to begin. i'm so glad that we will actaully be able to see the fruits of their labor all off season. i'm so glad we'll actually have tangible results to debate on rather than practice reports and editorials from every Tom, Dick and Harry with a computer and an internet connection.

and most of all, i'm glad that we once again have a chance to have a great season and a chance to see Tennessee get back to the top of the SEC.

Tennessee football.....it's fun again. for now.

Amen brother...I''m right there with you. I am so excited about this season and I think we are going to surprise alot of people...

The main reason...nobody is picking us to win and I just get the impression that our team has their haeds screwed on straight and we're definitely going to surprise people.

This is a unique season from what I can tell. We usually either have what appears to be a loaded team or we have a team that much isnt expected from. This is one of the first times I can remember in recent history that it could go either way.....IMHO. We have the talent in place and if the chips fall right it could be special year. At the same time...if they don't fall right it could be a long one.

Either way I am so stoked that it's finally here...GO VOLS!!!!

I think the phrase is "Dum spiro, spero" or "While I breathe, I hope"....such is the life of a Vols fan.

I'm excited about Ainge's senior season, the Tatum tandem, and revitalized offensive/defensive lines. I think it's going to be a wonderful season.

i agree with you 100% on point one. if nothing else, i love the attitude displayed so far from this team.

as for a unique season, i see what you're saying, but the reality is that this season is virtually a carbon copy of last season....

oh i know, but i feel the same way this pre season as i felt last pre season.....questions at WR, questions at DL, questions about the OL........the only thing missing this year is, no real question abut Erik Ainge. o/t that, it's the same.....

Well said, as usual, Jake. We've all been waiting for this season for a long time... for me the wait started in earnest as soon as basketball season ended. It will be nice to end the speculation and see what we actually have. At the same time, its nice to enjoy these last few days and appreciate the fact that the season is upon us.

Its cool to think about the critical mass that Tennessee football has. Moreover, the collective anticipation of the thousands of members on this board and the collective desire of 98+% or so of the people on this board to see the VOLS succeed. All the thousands of topics and posts since January culminate in what is getting ready to begin Saturday. A pretty special time.

Except it doesn't feel the same at all to me. The atmosphere swirling about this team seems completely different to me. More confident. More clear about the task, and how to achieve it. More unified even. I'd even swear that there is a wicked grin just beneath everything Fulmer says to the media about this team. There is something different here. I'm fairly bursting at the seams to see them take the field.

100% agree!, Fulmer seems confident, almost cocky, havent felt this excited in awhile, almost has the feel of the 98 season

i agree, i was referring to the more tangible aspects of this pre season compared to last......the same "issues" we had going in to last season, save the qb, are the same going in to this season.

Jake I don't get the same "feel" from the players this year as last. But we shall see in only 4days!
like i said, neither do I....it really was more in line with the same position quesitons headed in to last season as this season. the overall attitude and chemisty i think is better....

Guys, stop agreeing so darn much or the negavols will come out of hiding and thwart our fun ...:birgits_giggle:.
this is just my moment in the sun, before the season where everything is still right as rain.

this is all subject to change depending on the results after the season has begun.....:p

So you've noticed it too. I generally don't talk about that stuff cause I can't read minds and I'm almost as bad at reading body language but there is defintely a quite confidence coming from everyone on the team.

As far as unity is concerned....I've noticed it more around here than anything with the team. There aren't as many "get rid of Fulmer" talks around here. And I know that those threads have been combined into one but you'll notice that thread isn't as active as it once was. And regular football threads don't deteriorate into anti-Fulmer bashing's.

Yes...there is defintely a unity on this board. We seem to have put aside petty differences and we're all focused on the task at hand. And maybe we have Teddy to thank for that since we all seem to have rallied in an effort to mock and discredit his mindless posts. I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself. :rock:Once again...GO VOLS!!!!

Chemistry, attitude and discipline have been the biggest issue I have had with the team (excluding last season) in the past few years. We have talent on this team and if they play with discipline we have the ability to beat anyone on our schedule.

i would agree with you. i said it in another thread a couple of weeks ago, but there is an air of maturity on this team i haven't seen in a while, and it's a far cry from the teams that showed up for hte KSU Cotton Bowl and the two Peach Bowl embarassments. and that's certainly not a bad thing.

now put that with the so called ability and execute, and we are capable of doing some good things.

as has been well documented, i do think we will lose at FL, but i still wont' be completely shocked if we pulled a W there either. there's not one game on the schedule that i would say "wow" about winning. I might be happier about it than some others, but not stunned. And i can honestly say the same thing about the potential of losing some of those same games......i wouldn't be stunned about losing to a Bama, SC, or GA any more than i would be if we won those games.

which at the end of the day is why the SEC is so good.

Bandwagon open for business. Love the preseason jitters an atmosphere of hope and possibility of positive things to come.

Can't wait until the first TD is scored and the first loud pop can be heard as our D lays one on the Bears.

Go Vols!!

I'm very confident that we won't have to wait long for either
