Well, it's here. after all the pre season prognostication, position break downs, personnel evaluations, coaching evaluations, comparisons to other teams and basic debating over who will do what.......GAME WEEK is finally here.
Taking in to account all the reading, posting and general conversation we've all had up to this point about this year's edition of the Volunteers, it's now that time before the season where you've done enough of the above to have it in your head figured out what this years team's expectations will be, to only find out that your heart winds up taking over.
So, as i sit here on Tuesday before the 1st game of the season, i find myself completely excited about the start of the season, for a lot of reasons, but as was described in one of the blogs today, hope rings eternal. there's nothing by way of results to deter the thought that your team can do it.
And it's no different for me or Tennessee this year. Even knowing what i know, or at the very least what i think to be true, my expectations still are very high. My enthusiasm is very high. and as many of you probably would agree, i can come off sometimes playing both sides of the fence when it comes to this program, where it is currently, where it's going and where it's been over the past few years. And while i've come to the side of seeing the reality of the situation, which is pessimistic, let's face it, there still is plenty of reason to have hope for this year. and with a win Saturday, just like last year, that hope then starts to be come a glimmer of reality. ANd just as quicly, a loss sends fans in to what will seem like a season long tailspin of doubt and crushed dreams, only to be redeemed by winning not only the next game, but the next "THE GAME".
so i just take this time to say, i'm so glad the season is about to begin. i'm so glad that we will actaully be able to see the fruits of their labor all off season. i'm so glad we'll actually have tangible results to debate on rather than practice reports and editorials from every Tom, Dick and Harry with a computer and an internet connection.
and most of all, i'm glad that we once again have a chance to have a great season and a chance to see Tennessee get back to the top of the SEC.
Tennessee football.....it's fun again. for now.
