Game Thread Lady Vols vs Maryland in the Elite Eight

Did anyone really think Tn would make the FF without Russell, DD, JJ, or IH? They did as well as they possibly could this year, IMHO. I'm glad they weren't pounded by UConn while half the team is on IR.

let UConn lose stewart, Tuck, KML. and a another player of your choice and see how damn far they would get this year....

I thought Tennessee had a chance going into the game, but thought that Maryland was the favorite. My main concern was if Maryland would exploit their post matchup with Jones vs. Graves, even though she's not their go to. She ended up being their leading scorer and completely shut Bashaara down on the other end.

Part of me is glad that Tennessee didn't have to face UConn, but I do admit it would have been nice to see the Seniors get to the FF no matter what that outcome would have been.

People that wear the blue and absolutely live and die by Lady Vols basketball...are the biggest Holly apologists. Because she served beside the master faithfully all those years..?

Myself...more detached, but a fan nonetheless...I can't understand the blind allegiance. The program is still relevant enough to sell itself to top talent - for now. But Warlick can't diagram a freaking set play on offense, and our McDonald All-Americans always look disjointed when we possess the ball.

One would think the Pat-worshipers would have higher standards. What am I missing?

What coach would you like to see come in?

That's the question all the fire Holly fans won't answer.
Because they can't find a replacement who is an upgrade.
I haven't been Holly's biggest supporter but considering all the injuries, the elite eight was probably as far as we could reasonably go. The team really has accomplished a lot this year considering the circumstances. The nagging question is that we were so close to getting to the final four I keep thinking of what could have been done differently to get us over the hump.

They were outmanned. I think if they had Izzy in a game like this, then MD wouldn't have dominated inside like they did on offense and defense.

A healthy roster will go a long way towards helping them back to the Final Four. Next year, Diamond will effectively replace Cierra's production, but they need someone to step up and fill the gap left by Ariel. Mercedes is unlikely to replace Izzy's numbers by herself, so they need the rest of the team to step it up. Graves needs to add more dimensions to her game, Carter needs to play with confidence on offense, and Reynolds needs to practice that 6-8 foot jumper in traffic until she's hitting it at will.

UConn is going to its 8th straight final four. We have not been to a final four in 7 or 8 years. If that doesn't sting UT women's basketball fans, I don't know what does--and yet we have people lauding Warlick. Everybody likes Holly, including me, but she's at BEST at second-tier coach.

I had no idea Holly had been head coach that long. How time flies!

Good defense good offense but just couldn't penetrate and finish and I believe if Izzy was playing or Tenn had a post player to guard MDs bigs Tenn could've won the game. Hey the LVs made it this far without Izzy and I read some posts in different threads when she went down on doubters who thought the season was over. Burdick Massingale and Graves stepped up big. I think Tenn may have over achieved when Izzy went down.

Not really understanding why we as a program have had such a big issues with injuries the last few years. When you look at other programs like UCONN or ND they don't seem to have the same problems. Not implying they don't just not to the degree that we do it seems.
