If we couldn't beat va. tech or pa. state, we stand little chance of beating Baylor. We aren't good, and we're not well coached. We stand around too much on offense, don't shoot very well, commit too many turnovers and can't play man defense. Other that that....! We are /fundamentally/ weak---play too slowly on offense, switch too easily on defense, etc. etc. In the first quarter against Tn. Tech, Russell came to the high post and caught a pass; Tn.Tech was in a zone, and three Tn. Tech players surrounded Russell. Russell should have immediately recognized that she was doubled/tripled and know which Vols would be open and where, and made a quick pass to somebody. Instead, she just holds the ball and looks, holds the ball and looks, holds the ball...and then passed. She was WAY too slow getting rid of the ball. There was no turnover because Tn. Tech was so small they couldn't bother MR that much, but a better team would have. Moments later, Nared cuts across the middle, get a pass at the foul line, there is NO ONE guarding her, she had an easy, open 12-footer, but Nared seemed not to notice that she was wide open. Instead, she dribbled the ball out past the 3-point line and took a shot--and missed. On the one hand, some might say why quibble when you win the game by 50? Because UT has a LOT of bad habits that you can get away with against small college creampuffs but don't get away with against solid opponents. Bad habits, bad fundamentals, bad instincts---they all get you beat.
