Dammit coaches! You need to make those shots. Coaches didn't shoot worth a crap tonight.
Because Alexa can shoot the ball, and she is the best passing guard (other than Diamond). It becomes a trade off. She hurts the team defensively because she will easily get beaten off the dribble by most PGs. But on the flip side, they become a more difficult team to guard because she's been lighting it up from outside the perimeter. There is a lot more upside to having her on the court as opposed to someone like Jordan who is not much better of a defender and much less capable.
I don't think that this team has the pieces to be really good unless PG play improves. It's clear that Jordan is the same player she's been for 3 years, so I don't expect much to change unless Alexa becomes a better defender and starts taking Jordan's minutes.
The announcers at the UConn game mentioned that Dangerfield wanted to go to Tennessee but she opted for UConn because Tennessee already had a point guard and Jefferson was graduating from UConn.
Maybe so, but there's absolutely no reason to be losing to Penn State regardless who's playing guard. Alabama beat this team last year. Something tells me there's more to our problems than better guard play. Hopefully you're right and that will fix all our issues.
Does anyone think that perhaps PSU is better coached? Just throwing it out there.
Its clear Middleton is just not a great player. But damn she loves to dribble behind her back.
I am right, trust me....have you seen Reynolds try and make a layup...she jump steps to do it.....just like Massengale...whom also wasn't a good guard in my eyes.
I don't think Alexa needs to be a great player. She just needs to be a competent one. I can't say that Jordan has been that thus far in her career: afraid to shoot, non-descript passing skills, and stands around a lot.
And yes, I wish Alexa would stop that behind that back dribble. It's so slow that her defender can run to the bench, grab a sip of water, run back on the court and pick off the behind-the-back dribble before Alexa's come full circle. She needs to keep it simple.
We are lacking leadership--at the top and on the floor. Reynolds should be leading this team, and DeShields. Do they lead? Doesn't seem like it. This was EXACTLY how we started last year--and that is troubling.
There is no comparison between Massengale and Reynolds. Ariel could pass, attack the basket, shoot the long ball and run an offense. She could be inconsistent, but this would be a top 5 team with Ariel running the point. Reynolds was probably the worst starting PG for the SEC teams with winning records, and she was worse than some of the ones on teams with losing records.
Would Massengale be an improvement over Reynolds. Yea, but only because she could hit some threes as a junior/senior. She was a disappointment at PG herself--a pretty serious disappointment, IMO. As a freshman I thought she'd be outstanding. Nope: She was soft, never really developed as a point guard, was a fairly lazy defender. She could hit some threes, as I said, but that was about all she could do. Our guards NEVER develop. Reynolds is a not a PG and not a shooting guard. She needs a more well-defined role. Middleton should be our PG, IMO--she understandw how to play PG and can pass. Reynolds should focus on using her body and scoring. That's what I'd do--but I'm sure Warlick won't do it.
She's half-right, I'd say. Jordan really isn't that good...
