Game Thread Lady Vols at Penn State

you get the picture. we're playing with as many 5 star recruits as anyone right now, but someone has to know how to get the best out of these young women and help them to take their game to the next level.

sorry, i'm not feeling really excited about having the #1 recruiting class.

This. Does anyone really think the problem was PSU has better players than Tennessee? Until the real problem is addressed, it doesn't matter....

P4L is Holly's personal secretary. Don't take it personal when she responds defending her boss. :)

I did not know that but she/he needs to tell HW the truth. Everyone just about has a boss but that don't mean the boss is always right. Clinton has bosses but most of the krap that came out of her mouth was a lie.

We're all excited about the #1 recruiting class....HELLO!!! one could argue the #1 recruiting class is on the floor now:

'13 Mercedes Russell - #1, 5 star recruit
'13 Diamond Deshields - #3, 5 star recruit
'13 Jordan Reynolds - #42, 4 star recruit
'14 Jamie Nared - #6, 5 star recruit
'14 Alexa Middleton - #28, 5 star recruit
'14 Kourtney Dunbar - #78, 4 star recruit
'15 Jamesha Jackson - #49, 5 star recruit
'15 Te'a Cooper - #8, 5 star recruit, albeit sidelined

That guy up North with UConn would take this Lady Vol team to the Final Four and win it.

My suggestion for Holly...you have the # 1 rated recruiting class coming in next year...don't try to coach them...just let them play and get the hell out of the way...they will make you look like a good coach if you let them coach themselves! If you tinker with their game, you'll just screw it up!

Exactly and that's what she is doing to some of these players, let them play

Holdsclaw was the real deal. We don't have anyone close to her talent. Players like her don't come around often.

beg to differ! Diamond is as close to that level of talent as you're going to get. On a Geno Auriemma coached team, she would be coronated as one of the best to ever play the game already. Holdsclaw had a phenomenal coach, which contributed to her success.

Gee, why should we be able to break down a zone defense. Our players and coaches only saw it ALL of last year.

Reynolds has a big body. She needs to use it to penetrate a zone and either shoot or dish to an open teammate. But that requires, first, quick ball movement. You don't break down a zone defense by standing around, as if that is really something that needs to be said at this point.

Thank you!!!! Please give us guards that know what the hell to do with the ball!!! I just can't believe Holly's game plan was to stand and look with the ball....Alexa just won't cut it against quicker and more athletic Guards....Nared rebounds and hustles but is terribly inconsistent offensively......DD should stay, no questions asked!

Agreed! Welp, at least we know the upcoming recruits are all talented, and are used to the ball being in their hands, Annie, Ervina and Davis.

Alexa can be alright, if we ran a zone on defense, cos she helps our offensively flow tho, cos she's been playing a lot of minutes, and to not start, then only to play 14 minutes, oh I would be pissed, and I may not play hard for you, yes.

Holly should have kept the rotation the same. Holly has to show consistency too, don't seem like she handles situation in a manner that player trusts, so that means she needs to be more consistent in her standard and message, I think Middleton not starting really bothered her and the team, its like she wasn't given a chance, Holly responded like last year and the players followed suit. She acquaisced defeat by changing her lineup.

Or maybe Middleton broke a team rule, but sumtimes was definitely off with this team tonite.

I was joking! The smiley face was a giveaway. :)

She acts like CHW is gods gift to wcbball. And we both know that's

And plz don't bring politics into it. Wasn't this loss bad enough?

Nothing has changed with this program for awhile now. Been a fan for 40 years, and I'm about as discouraged as all get out. The players still can't shoot, (haven't shot well as a team since Taber and Kamiko left) poor defense, averages about 18 turnovers a game even though we have had both young and experienced point guards running the show (so what's the excuse, then?), not fundamentally sound.

We hear it's injuries, lack of practice time on offense, Holly needs time, etc. But Lady Vol basketball is slipping and slipping badly. We may have these excellent recruits next year, but if changes aren't made with the coaching staff, it won't mean a darn thing.

You are right about politics but I was trying to make a point as well.

Thanks

Can't excuse the coaching but in my opinion this group looking back looks highly overrated

So, the players could have chose sides... and that's a tough spot for a coach. Cos a bunch of them chose not to play, just another perspective.

Alexa averaging double digit, playing some good basketball, and I'm taken out of the starting lineup, because of a mismatch, Holly perceived Penn State would have, rather than the mismatch Penn State would have, having to guard Nared at the four.

Holdsclaw was a straight baller. Attitude and leadership to boot. Diamond is talented but no CH. I'll give in a bit to the coaching but straight up no coach involved I take Holdsclaw every day.

Well since slick hart is leaving there may be a small chance at some point. Even if Blackburn is hired and I hope he is , HW is know by him pretty well. At some point these coaches who think they are not replaceable better step up and that is Lyle, Patrick, Soccer man and I am sure there are a couple of others. The Weeklys and the track folks are a keep. Do not keep up with other sports as much but this blind love has to go....

Dat part. Every great Lady Vols, we love that led us to Championship were consistent night in and night out, we knew what we were gonna git 90 to 100% of the time, they didn't lose a bunch of games. She's nowhere on CH level.

She's not playing like the best wing or guard in the SEC, she's shows flashes of talent.

Alex,I gave you a "like" on this one! This talent is being "dumbed down" by a confused, clueless, weak head coach...and I don't dislike her as a person, but she just doesn't seem capable of getting the most out of her players, or capable of improving their basketball skills.

She watched the Sparks in the championship game. Chelsea Gray should had been an inspiration to her. It appears that Jordan Reynolds just do not want to mix it up in the paint or use the backboard for pull up jumpers like Gray.

For the life of me I have no clue on why the LVs refuse to use the backboard on angle shots or the baseline.

Dang it all that game was so disappointing! I had a feeling it wasn't going to go well. Prior to the JMU game Holly had stated in an interview that she was worried before the game on how Tennessee would come out and play. Talk about having no confidence? Good thing they beat JMU.

Thank you Pat!! That is something you and I can agree on!:)
