Gabe Lazo Out

That is what has been spoken by many on X and other sites. Whether they know anything who knows? What I kept hearing she has turned it all over to him.
Very convenient that is being pushed the minute he leaves, but again, if that is true, it shows how unprepared she was for the job. If true that also means she was completely detached from yet another aspect of a head coaching job that she is getting paid to do. Nothing was really poor Kim’s fault because she really didn’t have a hand in anything in her own program.

It was pushed after the last portal class what a great job it was number one ESPN. Absolutely no doubt she was ill prepared for the Tennessee job I am sure there was not any need to do much evaluation of players at the level she was coaching. She will have some input maybe this time on the portal players, but I am totally confident that Ferrara will be doing the work and expect the choices will end up being his. I honestly doubt she knows how to evaluate a player that well. Her subbing seems to confirm that to some extent.

Now that I can agree on except that apparently Jenna does all the subbing. Again something poor Kim just doesn’t have control over and someone else’s doing. Just very bad luck that keeps happening to her.

Evidently we should've fired Jenna cause the subbing was the worst part of the program and the season. No way you could replace the top five players on that roster with anyone left for more than two or three minutes and five at a time was the ignorance I couldn't accept.

Lol poor Kim of Arc, the world’s most unfortunate coach/ victim. Responsible for everything yet nothing.

Apparently, the cloak of magical protection extends to Jenna and her subbing. St. Kim already told us the reason the preplanned, analytic-driven, hockey line sub pattern didn’t work this year is because the players (of course) were too unpredictable and inconsistent to make a rotation that’s not actually based on game situation. Which is always the goal.

Anyone know if there was some kind of prior connection, or even familiarity, between Caldwell and Ferrara? Is it possible that Danny White made this choice instead of Kim? I know that’s typically not the way coaching hires are made, but I wonder if, in this case, there could have been some helpful intervention going on behind the scenes.

Reminder: This is a fan forum, not the Supreme Court. I can post a random thought that is probably ridiculous and it’s okay. Nobody is going to get hurt. Carry on.

I seriously doubt DW is involved at that level. He gave her his complete vote of confidence and I don’t think he has time nor desire to micromanage her program.

I read somewhere yesterday that the new coach has a connection with Civil and it’s easy to imagine that played a big part. Keeping her would be huge.

Also, the introductory press mentioned he’s a three point specialist. Believe he’s here to find and recruit a few badly needed sharp shooters. And there is a renewed vow to prioritize 3 chunking
so that might appeal to some.

That’s definitely a positive, but the flipside of his coin is that Florida State finished in the 150s in three-point shooting last year and shot a team average of 30%.

I know a recent former LV head coach who would have loved this cloak. Catastrophic injuries derailed your line-up? Stop whining and making excuses, anything less than a natty is unacceptable!!!.

For Kim, it may be "if you can just keep the streak of making the NCAA going, that will be good enough for us!!

If we miss the NCAAT next season, I imagine in Year 4 of the Caldwell Error, I mean era, the Lady Vols will play in front of smaller crowds. Much smaller. People are already on the edge.

Miss the tourney couch burning coming and moving van hired. Tennessee has a history of knowing how to treat coaches that fail to that extreme.

It looks like Kim Caldwell, with full support from her boss and tacit (hah!) approval by
KLUtz, is the Head Coach for the coming season.
Let’s look at some essential head coach tasks, discuss past results and future needs.
-assemble a competent staff. (1) Well, subbing is a key part of her system and it didn’t work well this year, so the subbing maestra, Jenna according to many, needs retooling or a boot in the posterior. (2) recruiting was, we are told, the domain of the dearly departed Mr. Lazo, with final approval the responsibility of the head coach. Thus the HC gets a failing grade for a bad hire and/or poor judgment in (3) player selection. But before we go there, …
Let us take a step back to staffing. Against some of the better opponents our players looked gassed by the end of Q 3. Our magical system is intended to wear opposing teams down, but it was our own players gasping fir air. Is this an issue the S&C coach is supposed to deal with?
Overall staffing grade for KC? Even in this ae of grade inflation, no better than a D.
Other job elements include
a. scouting and game planning
b. in-game adjustments 😨😱🥶
c. individual player development (Yeah, that’s a thing for most teams!)
d. offense resulting in points (Yeah, that’s a thing for most teams!)

Others can whale away at a, b, c, and d.

AD White I fully support all this in this post our great Coach and also the tailor that makes my suits and jackets. They all are doing a great job.

She herself said in multiple media availabilities that the failures were on her. Don't project what posters have said over what Kim has actually said.
She didn't "turn over" anything to assistants. Different assistants have different roles, just like they do on every staff. Gabe was lead recruiter. But in every photo from the summer travel circuit last year, Kim and often Jenna were right next to him. He wasn't the only one hosting portal kids, either. As another poster noted, Barker credited Kim for getting her. Which means Kim owns the challenges that Barker brought just as much as she owns her 14 points per game. Jenna manages the rotations inside the game, utilizing the system and flow that the staff draws up for each game based on the personell and the scout. Different coaches have the scout for each game, assisting with the gameplan.

The point is that anyone blaming Kim for 100% of the issues is wrong. Anyone who says she is blameless for ANY area of the program is ALSO 100% wrong. She's the head coach and she hires assistants with different strengths and experiences to put together a full staff. But every coach is out actively recruiting. And everuy coach is an active part of player development and retention.

Gabe being the recruiting coordinator doesn't change that. He gets credit for helping Tennessee sign the recruiting and portal classes that it did. He also gets some criticism for putting together SOME players that may not have properly meshed with the system, the staff or each other. It's all part of the story.

It’ll be all on Danny White. This is all his call, his responsibility. The proverbial couch of failure will burn on HIS lawn.

It’s clear who those posters are that keep trying to connect a recruiting coordinator to Oliviyah Edwards. These people are out their mind. Lying on the kid about asking out of a LOI when her and her family have posted Tennessee info connecting her to the LVs.
Hi Kim. Good to see you’re up and running early today. Love how you fired the best recruiter in the country and replaced him with another Hispanic dude as if none of the players would notice. The fact you keep saying she didn’t ask out of her LOI doesn’t make it any less true. The titanic is sinking and you’re planted firmly in your deck chair on the top deck. You’re the only one who doesn’t seem to hear the music yet.
