Fulmer's Silence ?

Fulmer's silence abut Tennessee's season so far is quite quizzical to me. As a former successful coach who is now AD, I am sure he knows what a good coach looks like. He sees Pruitt on daily basis, sees what Pruitt is doing, sees his daily calls etc. If anyone, Fulmer should know whether Pruitt can get it done by now. That is why it is surprising that Fulmer hasn't come out in support of Pruitt. He could come out and say 'this place was a mess when we got here. I know Pruitt will right this ship, we just need time'. Something like that could calm the fan base down a lot and also not hurt recruiting. Fulmer knows that Tennessee fan base, he knows how impatient and passionate we are.

So could it be that he knows Pruitt is over his head and is waiting for opportune time to make a move (end of season or October) or he is still running around getting support from his bosses to make his next move ??

I really dont think if Fulmer thought Pruitt was the right guy, he would have kept quiet so long. He would have definitely come out and said something to calm the fans down.
He loves Pruitt

WTH do expect him to say?
Exactly. Fulmer is doing the right thing by keeping his mouth shut...no matter his opinion of Pruitt's job performance. Most idiots realize that, but there are some really special idiots in here.

Remembering Fulmer's loyalty to Sanders still aggravates me after all these years.
Thankfully, we are nowhere near the point where Fulmer would need to make that decision with Pruitt.
Phil will have 4 more weeks until he will have to do some deep thinking about the state of the Tennessee head coaching position and the state of the Tennessee football program.

Fulmer has already said all that on at least one occasion. While our fans act like children at best sometimes, those who have a voice are not and need to calm their own rear ends down.

Right now, he hasn’t even had 1.5 seasons. Fulmer is in wait and see mode like the rest of us, and Jeremy is cleaning house and starting from scratch while learning to be HC.

It is what we have. He was given at least 5 years (I read 6 yesterday). It is what we invested in. Sometimes things get worse before they get better. It has gotten worse. We will see if it gets better over the next couple of years. If Pruitt cannot do it, we will get another coach.

If fans think our boosters should just empty their wallets because we are impatient and not show up for games and keep this program alive while we try and figure this out, we do not deserve to win another game. It’s just another case of asking for handouts.

He's doing what a good AD does by letting the coach handle what needs to be handled. If Fulmer starts commenting on Pruitt or the organ right now he probably more pressure on Pruitt and inserts himself into the spotlight. AD works behind the scenes, they are not the visible have of the program and shouldn't be.

Phil Fulmer is probably trying to get up the nerve to make the big decision at the end of the season

Bro I still hope Jeremy is our guy cuz if he ain't then it's worse than we want it to be on rocky top.
But I will say this, Tennessee has lost 8 regular season games ONCE in one hundred and twenty years of our great history.
If we do not win but 2 or 3 games like some are predicting, then I think Phil will have to send a resounding message to the football world that we do not accept failures of that proportion here - buyouts be damned

I would have agreed with you if this was an over-reaction. However this is a disaster of epic proportions. We lost at home to GAST. To prove that the loss wasn't a fluke, Florida dominated us like a team that lost to GAST. Fulmer not speaking in support of an embattled coach says a lot about which way Fulmer is thinking.
The offense turned it over 5 damn times. O line and d line did their job. JG has no leadership qualities and it shows

Why?

There are always lunatic fans. The AD shouldn't have to give a speech after every loss. What good would that even do?

I've been around long enough to remember when we were a great program. And there were still fans who wanted the coach fired after a 10-2 season. The AD's job is not to soothe every irrational fan reaction.

How old are you, a hundred?

Fulmer has said plenty. He knew before hiring Pruitt just how much an uphill climb this would be.

He is doing the right thing by not saying anything. Most of the time, silence is the best option.

I'd be more concerned for Pruitt if Fulmer came out and gave him a vote of confidence. That is the kiss of death.

Needs to stay silent til mid next year if not beyond. He didn't hire Pruitt for a quick turnaround. I think he kind of already knew it was a long term deal. He watched Butch and i think he kind of hated what he saw, personnel wise anyway.

Fulmer is part of the problem. He needs to back off the field and stay in his office and take care of all sports. That should keep him busy. He wants to micro coach. Turn the coaches loose and let’s win games. He wants to coach again and no one hired him after we let him go. He must have read HC play book about losing a position she wanted.
