Fulmer's Silence ?

Fulmer is more connected than folks may realize (or have forgotten). He doesn't have to officially say anything to spread his message. You hear folks coming out to reiterate that CJP needs time, he walked into a mess, he has the ADs support, etc. There are many more ways of communicating besides directly coming out and putting out a formal press release or conference. If for nothing else, he will use his connections to test the waters and reactions while simultaneously limiting perceived liability.
Case in point: Doug Matthews on Midday 180

It's going to be a bad day for Tennesee either way. But it will make the atmosphere really fun for a rivalry that has become rather uneventful.

Or if Tennessee is going after a top shelf head coaching candidate it could be Urban Meyer or God forbid Mark Richt.

It's reported that Fulmer has suggested a retake of 5th grade English for our 2nd year head coach, possibly so he can explain how the team is regressing and getting worse, with out getting
tongue tied?

Pruitt, Fulmer's watching you!

If we learned anything from CHW leash is that it’s awfullu long and got an unwarranted extension

The extension was warranted—it provided the opportunity to restructure the buyout. Fulmer is not as dumb as many label him to be.

Everyone wanting the kiss of death is funny

Firing JP at this point would set us back. On that I agree, and don't think we should do anything of that nature at this point.

But really, if the UTAD had any concept of public relations, they would be embracing the fans, acknowledging their support and thanking them for same, and pledging their unending efforts to right the ship and get us back on course.

Feel good fluff? A little, but it beats the heck out of disparaging the fanbase like happened on Monday, or Pruitt's general annoyed PO'd attitude during any media appearance, or Fulmer's silence.

And I agree that PF is a Vol to the core. However, he is PF to the bone, and I get the sense that he feels the university and program owe him some $$$$ and respect, and part of why he is back is to get both.

JMHO.

Fulmer's silence abut Tennessee's season so far is quite quizzical to me. As a former successful coach who is now AD, I am sure he knows what a good coach looks like. He sees Pruitt on daily basis, sees what Pruitt is doing, sees his daily calls etc. If anyone, Fulmer should know whether Pruitt can get it done by now. That is why it is surprising that Fulmer hasn't come out in support of Pruitt. He could come out and say 'this place was a mess when we got here. I know Pruitt will right this ship, we just need time'. Something like that could calm the fan base down a lot and also not hurt recruiting. Fulmer knows that Tennessee fan base, he knows how impatient and passionate we are.

So could it be that he knows Pruitt is over his head and is waiting for opportune time to make a move (end of season or October) or he is still running around getting support from his bosses to make his next move ??

I really dont think if Fulmer thought Pruitt was the right guy, he would have kept quiet so long. He would have definitely come out and said something to calm the fans down.

I don't think now is the time to say anything. If we start 1-6, I would guess he will come out with a vote of confidence statement of some sort.

At this point PF knows that talk is meaningless to this fanbase, well most of us anyway. They can say whatever the hell they want. Until they are competative in games, its just words.

I hear you, but I disagree a little. I'm almost at the apathy point, but not quite there. If I had any sense that the UTAD gave two hoots in hades about the fans other than a revenue source, or that they had any awareness that they could potentially lose a large portion of the fan base permanently if the cluster %$#@ continues, I'd have more interest in the program despite the losses.

Crap like cancelling the caravan, Pruitt's general Sabanesque attitude, the continual search for new revenue streams from tapped out fans......it all just gets old and grating. If they would put just a little effort into fan relations, it would go a long way.

Just my $0.02. As always, reasonable minds may differ.

Don't know about the money, but he sure wants to shore up his legacy, while putting Haslam at the back of the bus.

Might backfire on him.

He did not come to Davenports side when Jimmy took her down, and she was apart of the coup that laid on the sword to bring back Fulmer.

Why?

There are always lunatic fans. The AD shouldn't have to give a speech after every loss. What good would that even do?

I've been around long enough to remember when we were a great program. And there were still fans who wanted the coach fired after a 10-2 season. The AD's job is not to soothe every irrational fan reaction.
I agree with your statement but when the national media start jumping on the wagon of how horrible of a program we have become than I feel those concerns should be addressed. With players jumping ship and the product put on the field, it raises concerns. We can speculate why players are leaving and the environment in the locker room but the truth is perception is a reality in today's world.

Couple of things I thing a lot of folks are missing:

Who was the OC when Dooley kept rolling Simms out there to take the beating before bringing in Bray? Chaney.

Who was the HC when golden boy QB Peyton Manning was waiting in the wings like Harrison Bailey is now? Fulmer.

I think we're seeing a replay of the past (at least in terms of how players are being handled right now)....
Colquitt was the best option that year until he got hurt in first series of first game. Played Helton to save red-shirt for Manning and Stewart. Helton got hurt, Manning eventually beat out Stewart (whom a lot of fans preferred because of his mobility).

Her contract was to ending in 2019 with an Salary of $665,000

After Fulmer's three year extension till 2022, She walked away with $704,786 in 2019

Yeah, I hear you on thingd like the caravan etc....living so far away im a bit detached and forget about things like that. I rarely listen to any of the call in shows etc and never press conference, cause I dont care at all what these dudes have to say. Weird how quick it changes, I remember when he was hired I was on the radio and flipping through Sirius channels quickly to listen to what he had to say..

All true with the result of Manning playing as a freshman and kicking off a tremendous run of good teams. I can't help but think Fulmer remembers that. As to what he's suggesting to Pruitt I couldn't say but it's a nice coincidence......

Be nice if they can catch lightning in a bottle again.

Fulmer isn't shy. Just the other day, he was dining in public and overheard to say, Please, pass the bread and butter.
