Fulmer's Comments after the game

but what you will see is occasional 12-1, 11-2, 10-3 seasons with tha occasional 9-4's.

Actually in eight years we've seen only one 2-loss season, two three-loss seasons, and the rest were 4-6 loss seasons. The majority of the past eight years we've had AT LEAST four losses.

Notre Dame last year was not physical. Watch the Ohio State game. If the Irish were physical in that game, than Richard Simmons needs to sign up for UFC.

notre dame was slow against ohio state not soft. but tha richard simmons thing was funny. i think he could take ortiz but chuck i don't know about. probably be fulmers fault if he lost.

Notre Dame's defense this year and last year has the physicality of a girls flag football team.

that's why i said he was working to get ut back on track, 9-4 this year and improvement in tha future after tha terrible performance of 05. i agree tha last eight years ommitting 01 and 04 were subpar, but i am confident in were ut is heading. where was fulmer's compliments after tha coaching job of 04 with tha freshmen qbs and tha appearance in the sec championship game. all that is mentioned about that year is tha loss to auburn in tha regular season, not the performance against that same undefeated team in championship game in which ut got beaten by a better team.

Who's fault was it that UT football got off track in the first place?

where was fulmer's compliments after tha coaching job of 04

That was the best coaching job he has done outside of the '98 season, and one of the reasons why he got a pass on '05. Unfortunately the '04 season is where you live...in the past.

The credit for our great offense in 2004 goes to our offensive coordinator. Whatever happened to him?

i live in tha past. another dumb comment. i wasn't tha one who brought up tha records of tha past eight years. i was just commenting afterwards. if someone brings up failures of tha past, accomplishments of tha past must also be brought up.:banghead2:

He doesn't even care enough to keep his players out of trouble academically and legally.

And one more thing that burns me up is these people that call in after the game and say not to be hard on the team, "cuz they are just kids".

You know what? If they are old enough to vote, bleed and die in the military, drink in some cases, fight outside of clubs, and decide not to hit the books to be eligible for the bowl game (Brett Smith)...well...to me that means they aren't just kids and they should take responsibility for their failure on and off the field.

Well, like you said....if they're old enough to die for their country, they're also old enough to not get arrested or end up in academic trouble.

Blaming the coach for someone getting arrested...give me a break.

Whatever did happen to Eric Locke, Daniel Brooks, Chris Heath, James Banks, et al?

Heres a Fulmer quote from the Commercial Appeal website.

"This is the best and most fun year of coaching I've had in a long time, as far as enjoying the team and the coaches," said Fulmer, 56, who just completed his 14th full season as head coach. "I'm looking forward to next year. I really think before I retire we'll win another national championship"

In the same article, Ainge makes this quote:

"A couple of years ago we won the Cotton Bowl and came out the next year and went 5-6," Vols' quarterback Erik Ainge said. "We'll learn from this game. Our discipline isn't where it needs to be. That's something we'll address. I like our outlook for next year."

Fellows, its time to anty up. Chavis said in the Tennessean that we were not physically or mentally prepared. What gives? I know its like beating a dead horse, but CPF and his crew make the big bucks to get our team ready to play. Its just plain dis-heartening to watch the way we perform on occasions. Phil, its time to back up what you say. But the way Phil's teams have played the past few years, its hard to see next years glass as half full.

If we survive the early trips to Cal and Florida, which will be Tebow's first SEC start, we will be in a great position. LSU rotates off of the schedule and is replaced by MSU. Games against UGA, Arkansas, and Spurrier are at home. Road games include Bama and an improved UK team. If we don't lose twice in September, next year will be a big opportunity, I think, so yes, CPF, please make us shut up by putting up.

I totally agree with you guys. Next year is our best chance to win a NC and an SECC. If we don't atleast win the SEC then Fulmer should retire or be fired. But I do like our outlook next year. If Meachem returns and we improve on D and OL we could be unstoppable. Let's end next season #1.

I guess you missed watching USC drill Michigan. Before Vols begin thinking NC again they should be aware of the talent deficit that exists on the UT roster.

And it is not necessarily our record that I get upset with. If we lose next year to a great Florida team, Arkansas team and/or whoever..........I won't be as upset as long as we came out with intensity and play our asses off. That is all I ask of the team. I would definitely want all wins but I want to see heart and motivation and for them to leave it all on the field with nothing left to give. That goes for coaches and players.

We need an Al Wilson to step up on this team IMO.

you're kidding right? if there are people that really EXPECT an SEC title and National Title next season...man are you going to have a long year. Expect another season a lot like this one.

Exactly. we are no where near that kind of talent level all the way around...

i think we have potential to get back in the hunt for real in a couple of years. but not next year. no way...unless we get A LOT better up front on both sides of the ball...and i mean A LOT BETTER you are looking at another pretty average year. beating who we should, losing to who we should and maybe a game that was a tweener. 8-4/9-3 something like that.

Our recruiting class is ranked 3rd by Rivals right now. And, we were 2nd two years ago. That sounds pretty talented to me.

Compare the comments from TCHFCAUTK with these from Charlie Weis (from Mark Schlabach's column at ESPN on the debacle in the Sugar Bowl):
"I think the first thing that's got to happen is that everyone is thinking the same way I'm thinking," Weis said. "They can't be content to be 10-3 and going to a bowl game and getting your clocks cleaned. That's my responsibility. It would be really easy for me to sit here and blame the players, but I would be at fault.

"We've got to turn the corner because right now we've got a nice, solid team. You want to be an upper-echelon team, not a nice, solid team, and a team competing for national championships. That just won't cut it with how this ended."

yeah, Weis certainly has alot more "resolve" in his banter.

I've never liked Weis but at least he manned up in his comments. Phil should teach a class to young coaches on how to give press conferences that are so vanilla that it causes pain.

The only, let me say again ONLY time Fulmer bucked up and said anything outside the norm was at halftime of the Georgia game about Georgia not being able to stop them and look what happened. He had a pair of balls down in Athens, what happened to them.
