Fulmer through "T" solo

I am sure I am not the only one, bit I suggested this to Hamilton in an email.

Yes I wanted change, but we owe respect as well.

I don't dislike this and I will support it if it happens, but running through the T is for the team as a whole and I can't see them doing this.

There is no reason for his family to be a part of it, however it's done. Am I the only who thinks it's cheesey as hell the way he always trots out to midfield for the postgame handshake with one of his daughters holding his hand? That and his wife is always on the field after the game. Who else makes a spectacle of their family like that? I mean what a ham! They have gotten enough screen time. Now please just go away already. One of the many things about him I won't miss is how he has force fed us these bs scenes with his family. Does anybody even know what Mark Richt's or Urban Meyer's family looks like? No! Because they stay in the stands where they belong!

Although i strongly supported and still do, AD Mike Hamilton's decision to replace Coach Fulmer, I like this idea a lot. I feel it would be appropiate along with a sustained standing O for what he did accomplish for us. We should all be grateful for what he accomplished @ UT during his earlier years as HC. That being said, I doubt he would do it. It was obvious during the press conference how much he loves his players and vice versa. I think he would prefer to be among them.

Not so hard to envision CPF and/ or CPF + family running through first shortly followed by the team. :clapping:

Mark Richt's wife was shown for a pretty good while last year kissing him passionately after the big win over Florida. Maybe Spurrier doesn't do that for his family because he doesn't have the kind of relationship with his family that Fulmer does with his. It's really not a bad thing, you know. Good grief JagerVol01, we got what we wanted in Fulmer's resignation. Now is not the time to keep hating him and treating him like he didn't do good for our program. The man has spent 30+ years at the University of Tennessee and has given his all for our football team for years. I think he has done plenty to show that he bleeds orange and loves this school. Just because we didn't always agree with how he tried to do things, it doesn't mean that he didn't try and try hard. If anyone deserves a standing ovation and tons of praise by Tennessee fans, it is Phillip Fulmer. What else do you want from the man. I think it's great that he includes his family with him after the games. He is showing that he is truly a family man while in the lockeroom or outside of football. I applaud such a jester and think it shows the true Phillip Fulmer. Thanks for your dedication and all that you've done for our program, coach.

I think its fantastic. But I think it would have meant more if it wasn't announced. Seeing CPF running through the T in his last game by himself would probably envoke a serious crowd response in a positive way. A chance to truly celebrate someone who gave their all for Tennessee. I hope he does it. I will probably tear up. To me he IS Tennessee football. I'm only 28, I don't remember anything before him. I welcome the change, but he is an amazing person and will be missed.

I too don't want to see the wife or daughters on the field. I have seen enough of them. I don't care what Fulmer does, as long as he just goes away and does not become part of the athletic department.

You guys just don't know when to quit. I think we have all done enough Fulmer bashing and got what we wanted. Now, can't we send the man off in style and show him the respect he deserves after so much love and dedication for UT. Your comments, as well as jagervol's, are classless.

joc youre comment there is completely classless. Just because you don't like Fulmer doesn't mean you have the right to make comments about his wife and daughters. And get used to seeing Phil, because he WILL be a part of the athletic department for many many more years in some capacity.

this, sir, is an ignorant post....Mrs. Richt is on the sideline EVERY game...she keeps the water cups filled...the Fulmer family is involved because they choose to be

I think it would be a great idea. I just wish I didn't have to work so I could go to the Kentucky game.

i wanted Fulmer gone as much as the next guy, but, the night of his resignation I sent him a email thanking him for everything he has done and wishing the best. As others have said I may not like his coaching but I respect the hell out of the man.

I hope he walks thru in a glory filled moment with an enormous standing ovation... it would be cool also if the players could form a part of the T or carry him out lol

You're obviously very young and not too bright. I wouldn't mind seeing you just go away.

I think it will be a bitter pill for him to swallow if the people who clamored for his job and criticized every move he made, suddenly acted as if none of it happened and he's leaving because he wanted to and he's suddenly everybody's hero. The remaining games will be difficult for him and his family. Just go on with business as usual and at the end of the season have a ceremony or something to honor him and move on. All this "let's honor him in a special way" just seems downright hypocritical to me after the way he and his coaching ability have been trashed. And no, I am not bitter because he is leaving. I just think an over-the-top send off would be a day late and a dollar short for him and his family.

You are exactly right. The whole idea just sounds preposterously awkward. Lets celebrate his time at UT after (basically) firing him for incompetence. The fact that he is so emotional, and probably angry, about the whole situation makes honoring him this season in general feel very awkward. You can tell Phil doesn't want this, and to trot him out on field like some kind of great hero for his career at this moment just seems incredibly strange. The idea that fans should come celebrate his legacy at the final game of a losing season where the athletic department, fans, and media basically wash their hands clean of him seems like one of the biggest farce acts of Hamilton's career. I'm not saying we should kick the man out the door and say see you later, but if I were Phil Fulmer this whole spectacle would make me extremely uncomfortable.

This a very hard situation for everyone. It's hard to tell a guy to move on when you appreciate and respect him so much. Fulmer not seeing the decline himself even makes it harder because not only are you getting rid of him but you are disagreeing with him totally. It's almost like Fulmer had no clue that he would be asked to leave. Although it's hard, the teams best interest has to come first and it was very clear to all that we were headed the wrong direction. How do you say thanks without saying no thanks at the same time? If Fulmer would have seen the light and listened to reason, he could have saved himself alot of pain. Unfortunately, Mike Hamilton let this go on too long and the fans showed their true feelings at the games and on the radio and internet. I think that deep down, Fulmer knows how the fans really feel about him and he knows it was time to go. Just think how bad it would be for Fulmer if he was allowed to come back next year and won about 3 or 4 games again. His legacy would have been tarnished forever. I think most of us remember him for winning a whole lot of games and bringing home two SEC hampionships and a national championship. Being known as a fierce recruiter isn't a bad thing either for Fulmer. I think the fans should come out and support Fulmer and give him a standing ovation if he comes out separately. He needs to know that we respect and thank him but just think it's time for a fresh change and what was done had to be done for UT football's well being. I think he will look back and see that Tennessee had dropped further than he knew when he was coach. I hope he stays around somehow to help with recruiting.

As others have said I may not like his coaching but I respect the hell out of the man.

I see you are another sheep that wants to imagine everything that is good and right in this world and think, somehow, this applies to the Good Ole Boy we have finally expelled. Its unfortunate that what has been going on for years has not been made public. I still say someday someone will make a movie about what goes on behind the scenes to keep Fulmer's inmates on the team.

See if you can find someone inside UT Security to privately share with you what Fulmer's team is all about - what kind of individuals are brought in and what is covered up. Instead of making Phil a hero I believe you would say he would be an excellent example of what is wrong in America. Prime material for a book or movie.

Just read Hamiltons interview from today and he said it's possible CPF or CPF and family will run through the "T" solo vs. Kentucky...What do you think?
I think he'll run through with the team because thats the type of person he is.

I think he and his family should run through the T. Then, the players should run out through the T after the crowd gives Phil a standing ovation of a minute or two.

Fulmer deserves it! I was more than read for a change. He slipped in the back door to land the HC position in the first place. But, he did improve greatly over what any other coach had accomplished at UT, except Neyland.

There will never be another Neyland. How many shutouts did the D have in Neyland's days? Granted, the offenses were much less complex, but still. Neyland's defenses KICKED ASS!!! :salute:

I think it would be a very fitting tribute and hope if he does it the fans are so loud they could be heard in Memphis.

I think that way also. The man has earned a place in true a Vol fan's heart. The 90's were fun.
