Fulmer talking to Miles

I am afraid that Fulmer would try something like this. Needs to hire Sumlin over Miles. Fulmer is the only old guy we need. I hope the Tee experiment turns out well.

If Fulmer brings Miles as the HC, Martin as OC, Steele as DC, that's about as solid as this program can expect. Look at what's been happening of late. Consider how UT is seen nationally. Consider we still have the same dysfunction with the BOT and aunt Edna is still on the job. UT is behind numerous other SEC programs in terms of stability and desirability right now. I'd peg us in the 6-8 range in the conference ....and that's being generous. Historically, we are an 8 win per year-ish program. I think that staff could keep us there, keep us stable and maybe pull an occasional 9-10 win season. The next hire would be when we can aim higher. Right now I don't see anything much better knocking at our door....and by that I mean a stable fit considering our new AD. No, I don't consider Kiffin or Leach as being viable right now. Folks need to accept that we can't pick and choose anymore....not that we ever could or did. We are beggars right now. We are damaged. We are viewed as toxic, impatient, expectant, volatile and unstable. Nope. No home run hires this time around. Swallow hard and except our reality for 2017.

Most reasonable and intelligent post I've seen in a while. Id give you 10 likes if I could.

I think they could do better the the 8 win a year average. I think miles is a better coach than Jones and Jones came close to that. I get what you're saying...this has been a mess. But I think the tutelage of Miles with Martin as OC could mean we could average 9 or 10 a year and in a few years have us really competing for East and SEC titles. And once Miles is nearing term we have a great HC (hopefully) in waiting. I say hopefully beacuse that system never really seems to work.

For some of your freaking out about the potential of Les Miles, let me remind you 1 week ago reports were coming out we were about to hire Schiano and Currie and Haslam were steering the ship

We could do much worse. If it ends up being Les it would likely be a short term hire due to his age but if Tee is assistant and OC coach in waiting we may have our future secure

For the one that thought Les can’t recruit because he is old tell that to Saban. If Tee is on board he’s a recruiting machine plus Les has a ring. So does Fulmer who is calling recruits. They know how to win and get players to the NFL

Frankly, I don't think we can expect 8 wins in Knoxville anytime soon. I'd say 2 years best case. The talent on this roster isn't what folks think it is. We are woeful on the LOS, WR, and yes, QB. Next year will be a challenge to be bowl eligible. I fully expect another losing season. No sir, I have no dreams of 8, 9, or 10 wins for the next couple of years.

I like the picture of Tee recruiting, with his ring that he won at UT.

Again...people...let's speculate but don't make judgements. Is it likely that Miles is being considered, yes. Is it likely he would turn it down, doubtful but maybe.

Let's just discuss the merits of a coach and move on. None of us, I think, have any hard info as to whether he is or is not taking the job.

After the past couple of weeks I don’t think even the insiders know what the hell is going on.

Ah....there's the rub...the hope that Tee is the answer. Hell, we aren't even sure he's fully in control of the offense at USC right now. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to think we could finally have a UT guy who can feel like this is his destination/dream job. A guy who considers UT "home". Pray it works out that way, but this is UT where things rarely go our way. Usually one disaster after another.

Report: Phillip Fulmer has made contact with Les Miles about Tennessee job

So it might be

HC- Miles
OC/AC- Martin
DC- ?

I would like Steele ... could be Chavis.

What are your opinions?

Vomit

Get in the Delorean and hit 88 Miles/hr Marty; remember to dial in 1998!!!

College football has changed. That ‘3 yards and a pile of dust’ is gone. In those days, 16 points was all you needed to win ; today, it means you will lose by 20+. Even Saban changed his offense. Moron Les did not at LSU and got fired. Again, he was at a top 5 job, in one of the best recruiting grounds in the country, with elite talent and screwed it up. How do you think the results will be better (or the same) when the recruiting at UT is much more difficult, the roster less talented, and the job less highly regarded?

Like Schitiano, there is a reason no one else is considering Less Miles. He is a moron.

Also would like someone who speaks in full coherent sentences. Some of his interviews are embarrassing.

Sure. I didn't say 8 wins next year or even the next but I think we can find some patience now (I know that's seems unconscionable because we have been waiting for 10 years) in maybe 2 but definitely 3 years we can be back on track and looking at 8 or 9 win seasons and possibly looking into 10 or 11 wins seasons Cautiously optimistic.

Of anyone thinks that Miles and Martin will come in here and average 6 or 7 wins a season then I would love to hear why you think so.

I would absolutely take this with the combo of...

HC- Les Miles
OC- Tee Martin (AHC)
DC- Kevin Steele

Sprinkle in some other VFLs and great recruiters and let’s roll.

I'm starting to warm up to this possibility. Miles comes in and recruits well with Tee on staff, waiting in the wings. The caveat would be he has to let Tee run the offense. Brings some stability and smooths over what might be used as a negative recruiting tactic against Miles (age).

To me, I present this plan to Miles and give him a four year deal with a two part mandate: Restore the credibility of the Tennessee football brand (along with Fulmer) and FIX THE OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE LINE PLAY. You win in the trenches and the LINE PLAY has been below average/horrible for a decade.

I endorse this plan under the assumption Gruden is a pie in the sky fantasy...

Winning in the SEC is never easy. Ask Dinardo how easy it is. Winning a National Championship is never easy. Ask Petersen, Patterson, Gundy, and Leach how hard it is. Les Miles has done both. He is difficult and a bit crazy. But I think getting fired was a humbling moment that may have readjusted his flexibility meter. Arrogance got him fired. But it was probably reduced in the process. He is not my first choice, but UT would be well served if he is hired. (Probably -- No one can predict the future.)

I would love to hear why Tee would make subordinated, lateral move to a school in disastrous turmoil?

Gruden is and always has been a pink unicorn. He will never ever ever be the coach at Tennessee. Hopefully the same people lauding him as the next HC are not the same people giving the chance of Miles as HC down the road based on time out of coaching and age and recruiting.

THings has started going downhill for Miles toward the end at LSU, but how far downhill? His last full season was 9-3. UT would crawl on broken glass for a 9 win regular season. He started 2-2 last year and was axed.

The same reason that Kiffin went to SC. Dream Job. Oh not to mention that little thing that happened in 98. Oh and one last thing...Heavy.
