Fulmer talking to Miles

I believe that Fulmer will consider Les for Head Coach. Especially since Phil said he would bring in a coach "that wanted to be here", which Les has made it clear to many that he'd love a crack at the job. So I would be satisfied with Les as long as we brought in some orange-blood with him at the Coordinator positions. I'm not sure how true it is that "Tee would be interested" in the OC position. He turned us down before, and has a good thing going out there building his resume. If we offered him the Head Coach job, he'd come in a heartbeat, but it's wishful thinking to assume he'd hop on back out of his Cali lifestyle back to the mountains of TN for the same position he has now. Would be a hell of a steal if Phil pulled it off tho. And I think John Chavis would come back in a heartbeat as Les's DC if offered. He was Phil's DC, and then was Les's DC, and now he's unemployed I'm assuming since Sumlin is out and Jimbo is in at A&M. So Chavis makes sense. Orange-blood. A staff Headed by Les, and Tee as OC, and Chavis as DC would be a thing of beauty if Phil can pull it off. An experienced SEC coach with a Ring to run the show, then 2 VFLs as your lead Coordinators. Recruiting would result in Top10 classes every yr with Les/Tee doing their thang. Not to mention whoever the rest of the staff is. Phil could pull some magic off and get some more VFLs in there as position coaches(Terry Fair-DBs, maybe Jay Graham-RBs, Al Wilson-LBs....ya never know what Phil will attempt, but I bet alotta VFLs will be contacted). We can only hope Phil puts it all on the line to make the right decisions here. I know alot of Vol fans complain about Les....but honestly, with a bunch of VFLs and Phil around him, it could definitely put us back where we need to be. I'm in on this if we can get Tee and Chavis. I bleed orange, and we need more that do in the Vol program. I think Phil sees this too. Kinda like Mark Richt has done at Miami bringing "The U" back together.

I don't believe that VFLs are always the answer just because they're VFLs, but right now we need good coaches that want to be be here, and if there are VFLs that check those boxes, then bring them. This program needs that stability. All those kids that put it out there this season and showed no quit despite what happened deserve it.

For sure. I think Fulmer will not let a staff be assembled without a few VFLs on it. It'd be a cool thing to have an Al Wilson or Terry Fair (again) or Tee or even Steele as a coordinator or position coach. We need some ppl in there that we KNOW cares about the product we put on the field because it represents us all, and VFLs know it first hand. The team still represents them even all these years later. I hope this all ends well. It's looked bad lately.....and ever since Phil got fired actually. From the Kiffin mess, to Dooley, to the mess Butch made in the end.....we deserve better. It's hard to believe how far we've fallen down the power chain, smh. We've gotta make the right staff moves THIS TIME NOW and dig our way out of this rut, back up the ladder to a "top tier" school again. I think Phil wants that too. Hoping for the best this round. They've put the fans thru the ringer the last 9yrs. Maybe Phil will make a difference

Yes, and one would have to admit that this is the best chance, in a decade of mediocrity, that we've had of making the right thing happen.

This would be the most sensible and "Safe", hire available. We know what we are getting. He can coach, recruit, and provide stability. This would be a home run hire in my opinion.

I would absolutely take this with the combo of...

HC- Les Miles
OC- Tee Martin (AHC)
DC- Kevin Steele

Sprinkle in some other VFLs and great recruiters and let’s roll.

This could be a very possible combination. If Gus leaves auburn Steele is likely available. I don’t see Tee making a lateral move tho unless more money and coach in waiting

Miles is probably the coach with the least baggage and best record, out of the coaches who would actually come here after recent events.

He'll have to pick his staff, and I'll be curious to see who he chooses. Gotta trust him if you give him the job, and put him in charge.

Just curious for those who think Les Miles wouldn’t be a good hire right now because he couldn’t beat Bama and got fired etc who do you think would realistically be better that would come?

Salvaging A Sinking Ship

Orangeblood Fulmer, Phil this unwashed cup with a better and long-term future. Think of the immediate needs. Recruits that have and are abandoning the good ship Vollipop. Retaining the quality players we have before they board life rafts for parts unknown. Bring the ship to a halt, so further flooding isn’t forced into the damaged hull by force of negative momentum. Les Miles and securing the flood doors will at least slow the sinking, if not stop it for the nonce. A current of respect for a respected coach will keep players we have and bring back some we have lost.

Focus not only on an HC but a DC as well. A DC known for fielding stifling, aggressive and smothering units. Convince the flittering Martin his pay will be higher and go further than California taxes allow. Then pour some Tee in that aforementioned cup. Let him know he’s HC bound, a coaching in waiting, being groomed for the long haul.

Don’t seek hasty action or instant gratification. Make the ship seaworthy again with wise and cautious steps. When the engine is finally restarted, the ship can endure the SEC hurricane ahead. It’s wounds healed enough to reach home for dry dock service. Be refitted from being the African Queen to the USS Gerald R. Ford, fully armed and stocked for battle. And escorted by its battle group of proud and loyal fans. Listen, Phil, can’t you hear? Destiny is calling you.

Didn't say it's anything to brag about.

We fired our coach to get an upgrade. Les Miles post 2011 is still an upgrade VS Dooley and Butch.

He isn't my first pick, but that noise saying he isn't a solid hire is ludacris.

In 2016 he coached 4 games and still had more conference wins than us this year.

Miles got fired over his predictable one dimensional offense.

Players weren’t buying into what he was selling anymore.

Now where have I seen that before?

I'm trying to understand how a guy with an 11 Wonderlic can put together an offense that can outsmart SEC DC's.

If he came to UT the Bizarre breaks, for which The Mad Hatter is famous, would go against us. His luck ran out.

After what we've been thru the last 9 years, why wouldn't you want a guy that had double digit wins in the west, a NC and an almost.
The 'perfect' coach ain't out there.
Hire the Hat.

Miles would be a pathetic hire at this point.. He's a terrible gameday coach, horrible with clock management, and nobody wants him but Tennessee since he got fired? I'm pretty sure we can get Brohm or the Pirate but Les is at the top?

That's scary. We have had the worst luck in the past 10 years ( injuries, etc.). However, with Fulmer now the AD , the Fulmer curse has to be broken
