Since we all fancy ourselves as experts in college football and hope that someone at UT gains from our infinite wisdom, this thread is intended to collect some ideas for Mike Hamilton is figuring out how we can keep Coach Cutcliffe on the Hill.

My suggestion is that we structure some deal along the lines of the one FSU used to keep Jimbo Fisher. Given the anticipated popularity of this idea with other posters here, in the event you are somehow unaware of it, here's a copy of an article about the ingenious work of the FSU AD.

While we're at it, we need to show some love for Coach Chavis!

If Hamilton does this, of course, it would be the equivalent of throwing the finger midway between the pinky and the thumb at the negavol fans.

So, instead of coming here and calling me even more names, my simultaneous suggestion to you would be to join the negaGators. They have a winning record at firing coaches while you guys are winless. It would be like going from the Phins to the Pats.

Go Coach Cut! Go Vols!

I think Cutcliffe is fine as a coordinator, but would it really be that devastating if he left? Despite the lack of turnover in Knoxville, Coordinators come and go all the time.

I think FSU dug themselves in a hole with that deal.

Richt would be willing to return to FSU. He's head and shoulders above Fisher.

I don't like the idea of restricting yourself in a coach search.

I "think" it could change the mind of a top notch QB recruit.

I think FSU really will regret making that deal in the future...

Jimbo Fisher is a good coach.. But you are offering the man a position that is going to be so big to fill..

For a man who has no head coaching experience..

I just feel uneasy about it and I dont see it working out..

That's one beauty of our potential deal. Cut has HC experience and did well considering he was at a program as poorly resourced as Ole Miss.

Another reason not to do that sort of deal . . . Cutcliffe is only 4 years younger than Fulmer and already has had health problems.

I'm not trying to dog the guy, because I really think he does a good job. I just don't think he makes a lot of sense as the next head coach.

Agree. And make such a recruit that much better while playing for us.

That hypothetical, but unnamed QB who might not committ prior to such contract, might have a positive influence on other 5* players to follow his lead to Knoxville. We might call it the 'Manning effect' on recruiting.

Yep.

So, he would retire before Jimbo does (that means he'd settle for a shorter contract).

Moreover, I'm not sure I agree with the prevailing wisdom that hiring young coaches with experience in inferior football conferences is better than hiring coordinators who already know the league.

Cutcliffe as a head coach would decimate UT football. It would take 15 years to recover from the damage he'd do to the program.

Duke Considering Tennessee's Cutcliffe :: WRAL.com

They have mentioned Cutcliffe on the news here in Raleigh on all the news stations for the past two days. A lot of Duke alumni see him as a favorable head coach.

Smart people, indeed!

Let's just hope Cut doesn't start thinking about doing to Duke football what Coach K did to their basketball program. I'm sure he'd be great for them, but I want him to stay on the Hill!

Comparing Cutcliffe to Coach K is like comparing a local Golden Gloves kid to Muhammed Ali.

I don't think he'd be the greatest hire, but to say that he would completely destroy the program is a little over the top IMO.

We'd be fourth in the East at best for his entire reign. When he finally got fired, the roster would be devoid of talent.

Richt will never go back to FSU...voluntarily...having watched himthis season I doubt he will ever leave UGA on his own accord.

I would be willing to bet $5000 Cut is in much better health than Fulmer. Having by-pass surgery improves your health. I would say he is in better health than most people his age. The average Joe doesn't understand today's heart healthy methodology. Everyone thinks by-pass surgery is a bad thing.....truth is, most people could use it by age 60.
