Fulmer Returning; Cut on Deck; Chavis in the Hole

I'm a UNC alum...among other things. I don't care what happens to Dook either. I'm happy when they go 0-11.

Is he worth an investment to keep? I don't think so. If Chavis really is that jealous of Cut...as discussed in another thread, any compensation we shell out keep him will just make that worse. I, for one, don't want the drama. Cut's a decent OC, but he's not irreplacable.

Just my opinion

Go Heels! That's the board I'm going to find when the real Bball season starts. I'm a Carolina alum too, but divulging that could ruin my rep here as a 'stupid,' 'ignorant,' 'idiotic', and 'fooish' UT grad. And, Dook football, I mean really, who does care? Butch Davis will thump Dook whomever they hire.

It's all about Vols football until after the Bowl season is over. It takes Bball teams that long to warm up and get into a conference schedule.

To each his own. For me the extra money would not make up for the shame of being fired.

:eek:hmy:. go ahead and take back that statement because you didn't mean it. there's not much shame in the world that a couple million wouldn't heal.

Another Tarheel? :salute: When were you there? I was there for grad school from 92-96.

As long as UNC and Tenn don't play each other, I'm happy. But when they do, I'm a Vol. UNC may be on my wall, but UT is in my blood.

If he takes the Duke job, it seems to me he's admitting he's not going to coach for more than 5 more yrs anyway. He's not going to turn Duke around. Four yrs and they'll show him the door too. Then, he would be a twice-fired HC and go out a loser.

He might want that, but it wouldn't be for me.

i'm sure that no coach takes a job expecting to be fired. anyway, with confidence in himself that low, he'd probably not be as successful in his career as he has been. if a coach that assists me is so scared of failure that he turns down a job offer at a bcs school, i'd fire him from my staff.

I don't want to get too specific. It's not like I'm the most popular poster here, you know?

That's been happening in women's basketball lately. Tricky, but I like the Lady Vols winning tradition, but want to see the Lady Heels become more competitive.

Tar Heel baseball has been hot lately too.

If they meet in Mens Bball (the dance), I'll pull for the Heels, but would not be all that disappointed if the Vols win. UT Bball has only recently returned to being anything worth talking about. Pearl is a class act, but man the talent at the top of basketball is NOT exactly getting spread around the way it has in CFB. The Heels are loaded!

To go thru what some of these HC's go thru and then have that "Loser" label stuck on you. Not for me.

Besides, if I had that much money, I'd just blow it on something stupid. And then I'd be a poor, dumb loser.

no doubt that you would be a loser with that cowardly attitude. no offense intended but it takes a little confidence and courage to be successful at anything.

B/c I got lucky enough to go to a private school for undergrad & UNC gave me a better offer for grad school.

They could dye me Carolina blue, but I would still bleed Tenn orange. :good!:

Please don't say Dook.

Right now, I'm enjoying the fact that someone else has to struggle with the choice between a rock solid, elite beyond question basketball program and a UT program that's trying to get back in the mix.:)

comfort zone.:)

If you understand what it is you are supposed to be doing in life and are happy and productive in that role, it doesn't matter whether you are the leader or the underling. And I'm happy where I am.

Btw, the kid in your avatar looks like he means business. Yours? A future Vol w/ that game face I hope.

I am not quite sure what you are asking or wanting MH to do... More or less I am not sure what you are asking Cut to do...What are you asking us to do as fans... Where is the reset button on all this... I for one would never ask Cut to stay in hopes he would be the HC at UT...nor should we promise such a deal...How long will Fulmer be here, one would expect at least 4 years for starters...We may be faced with getting a new OC which is going to be a hard thing to do if we keep Fulmer on the Chopping Block... A new OC will be very cautious of this and we may not get the style of SEC Coordinator we need... another thing is that we there will be a lot of Micro Mgt going on for 2 seasons worth... This is a real mess... I cannot ask Cut to Stay if he wants to go... I not sure that we ever had Pryor to begin with...But for the next months ahead there will be a lot question marks over our players heads...Chavis is just hanging on but MH will not make this change if Cut leaves

Since we all fancy ourselves as experts in college football and hope that someone at UT gains from our infinite wisdom, this thread is intended to collect some ideas for Mike Hamilton is figuring out how we can keep Coach Cutcliffe on the Hill.

My suggestion is that we structure some deal along the lines of the one FSU used to keep Jimbo Fisher. Given the anticipated popularity of this idea with other posters here, in the event you are somehow unaware of it, here's a copy of an article about the ingenious work of the FSU AD.

While we're at it, we need to show some love for Coach Chavis!

If Hamilton does this, of course, it would be the equivalent of throwing the finger midway between the pinky and the thumb at the negavol fans.

So, instead of coming here and calling me even more names, my simultaneous suggestion to you would be to join the negaGators. They have a winning record at firing coaches while you guys are winless. It would be like going from the Phins to the Pats.

Go Coach Cut! Go Vols!

Never.

This may be the only option the Vols have to keep Cut at this stage. If they're not willing to do it, then we're losing a great coach.

He's good enough to be the head coach the Vols in 5 years or so and he shouldn't have to go through Duke to get there. He's already proven himself through any objective assessment of his contributions to the Vols program.

How so? By bringing us Luke and Roper? He has proven himself to be a serviceable playcaller and a good QB coach. That doesn't necessarily translate to head coaching duties.

We both agree that UT should be among the elite in the SEC. How would it look nationally if we hired a coach that Ole Miss fired?

Why is the fear of the unknown so frightening?

I have always had the Philosophy of I would rather fail at something I wanted to do than never try it, and spend the rest of my life wishing I had.

I think CDC should go to Duke, as others have said, he may not get too many more chances if any. Most all OC/DCs aspire to become a HC, why fault CDC for being no different? YGT?

Mike Strange just said on the radio that he s/w Cut and was told that Cut did talk to the dookies but he HAS NOT been offered the job and has no idea what is going to happen from here. He said he does not want to discuss anything except the bowl game comming up. The discussion was just 15 min ago.

Do you suppose CPF and Hamilton are doing everything they can to keep Cut from accepting whatever hypothetical offer the Dukies may be discussing (not officially offer yet, but just 'supposing they did offer, would you accept' kind of stuff)?

He has already accepted it.

if i had to pick one, i'd go with cut over dorrell. dorrell's terrible while cut was successful at ole miss, considering the talent level.

Dorrell was just as successful at UCLA as Cut was at Ole Miss. Dorrell might be able to inject a little excitement. Cutcliffe isn't the most exciting guy. He's not going to add anything to that program.
