"I am not seeking to be a candidate for the head-coaching position."

Translation: I am seeking Mike Hamilton's AD position.

“Tennessee football has been successful for so many years because it has been rooted in values and traditions. We can’t take those values for granted — if we do not guard them carefully, we will lose them.”

well said Coach Fulmer

Damn, even Fulmer turned us down.
I'm sure Phil would take the job back, if he were asked to do so. But he's not going to ask for it. But I second his feelings on what qualities the next coach should have.

I do think he'd like to follow in Doug Dickey's footsteps and become the AD someday. And he probably will, if Hamilton messes up the next hire.

A good statement in my opinion. Took the high road. I also agree with him that we need to hire the anti-Kiffin:

"I am looking forward to embracing the next coach and have some strong beliefs about the kind of man he should be. He must embrace Tennessee's culture and traditions, be mature and of good character, and demonstrate integrity and leadership to our young men who desperately want to be shown the way. He must deserve, earn and keep the trust of our young men -- both present and future."

Too bad Hamilton doesn't agree with Fulmer, considering our last hire had absolutely zero of these characteristics, I sure hope our next coach has them all.

He must embrace Tennessee’s culture and traditions, be mature and of good character, and demonstrate integrity and leadership to our young men who desperately want to be shown the way. He must deserve, earn and keep the trust of our young men — both present and future.

I'm not fooled by fulmer one bit. That failure of a coach had a good belly laugh at this whole situation.

Given his record of off field discipline issues in the past several years, those are pretty hippocratic words for Fulmer.

Kiffin may have turned out to be a rat, but he ran a much more disciplined program that had consequences for actions than the self-proclaimed molder of men Fulmer.

"Hippocratic"? Was that intentional?

I think thats unfair and totally inaccurate. A Nat'l championship and multiple SEC championships is not a failure of a coach. I'll be the first to say I was glad for a coaching change, and hopped on the Kiffin Bandwagon with everyone else.

But that doesn't mean you lose your respect for a highly successful coach and former player of the University. Isn't this where respect and pride for you the University and it's tradition begins?
