Fulmer Press Conference

hahahaha

I was so thinking that before I read your post. Funny.

Telling an attack sheep to back off is not the same as flying in and admonishing someone for their opinion, telling them to "Grow up" etc..

If he hadn't singled me out, with his stop picking on Phil lecture, I would never have said a word.

He's hard to listen to. Fulmer doesn't come across as candid most of the time. He never goes into depth on what his philosophy is, or what is needed to resolve the problems. He doesn't instill confidence that he can fix anything.

it wasn't an attack but a response to your post. Instead of addressing what he said you replied in a manner that made me believe you hit reply, said "Oh no he di'unt" and snapped your fingers in a z formation.

There's a reason it's called 'coach speak' and it wasn't invented by CPF

I will listen to what I please. State my opinions(within the rules of the board) as I please. Whine and complain about what I please. Make mountains out of molehills, lemonade out of lemons or whatever else suits my fancy.

You wanna scold somebody, get a job teaching pre-school. DON'T try to tell me what I can do on a freaking message board. :the_finger:

I'm going to assume that means I was right. No coach or player on our team can say anything without it being misconstrued and picked apart looking for "coach speak." I should have assumed that reason isn't a tool you go to the bag for very often, nor is respect.

That aside, I think your view on how to treat pre-schoolers is fundamentally flawed.

Agreed. What do people on here expect Fulmer to say? Does everyone expect him just to throw his hands up and say...

"You know what? We suck and it's because of my dumbass. The demise of the program rests 100% with my inept ability to adapt to the ever changing landscape of college football. For my crimes I am going to self-impose 100 lashings to my backside, administered by athletic director Mike Hamilton while my hands are tied to a steak at the fifty yard line of Neyland Stadium. Tickets go on sale in the morning."

To that, they'd reply: "We don't wanna hear it. We want to see results."

Now, if he'd said something about a player or the team it'd be "He never takes responsibility for the losses."

Anything is welcome besides: "Work like heck" "I ain't forgot how to coach" etc.

The fact is I've heard this before, if you hear the same thing again and again it is going to get old. I guess the only thing good about it is at least you know what to expect.

You'd have a better chance filling up Neyland for that than you would the NIU game.

A) correct, we want to see results. Not empty quotes!

B) I would have no problem if he criticized a player IF he addressed the problems right away. If a player is not giving you production you give another guy a shot, when you do this one of three things will happen: 1) It lights a fire under the starters arse! 2) You find out the backup has an upside you didn't know about 3) The backup isn't as good as the starter but at least you made your point!

Fulmer does none of these things!

No seriously, JWells has a point. What can Fulmer honestly say at this point that won't cause some kind of irreverent remark from the Vol faithful. Should he have said anything?!? What IS the right thing to say at this point.................beside's "I quit." :eek:lol:

Just tell us like it is! He should be on the pulse of this team. If he were to say: "look we have implemented a new offense and it is going to take time guys." If he were to shoot it straight I would respect that and probably be more patient about the situation to an extent. Instead we get the line about Clawson being ready (for the record I don't know if this is the main problem just an example).

The bottom line though is that he is not a straight shooter and will always dance around the issue instead of confronting it head on. It's hard to respect a guy that does that.

Uh, Yeah thats exactley what I want to hear. I don't think any coach in the world would ever do this, but Id respect him if he did.

Yeah but don't you think people would just say... "He's making excuses. Trying to blame his failure on a new offense. Heck, Urban Myer implemented a new offense at Florida and he was pretty darn successful right off the bat."

I'm just saying that I agree with JWells. There's really nothing he CAN say at this point that will please the masses.

yes we suck, i see it, you see it. everybody on tv see's it. we're not very good. we're not 4 plays away from winning we are 144 plays away from winning. i have senior running back that can't keep his composure i have offense lineman who can't remember to stay in a 3 point stance. we can't punt the ball without it getting run back for a td. we have a qb who can't hand the ball of on the most basic play we run. i have a lot of problems and everybody around here (players and coaches) is on notice. get better or get gone. now if there is nothing else i'm going back to work. and one more thing. boo or don't boo i have no control over what fans do nor do i listen to them. see ya!

Should he stand up and yell that he's a man? I don't understand the asinine belief that anything a coach says must be "coach speak" and is somehow always the wrong thing to say.

If he says A, you want B. If he says B, he should have said A. If he says nothing, he's a jerk. If he says A and B, he should be saying nothing.

Come on. The media asks questions, he has to answer them. It's part of the contract, I'm sure. Like I've said before, there's plenty to criticize without taking stuff out of context, making mountains out of molehills, and latching on to every word a coach or player says.

If you're gonna whine and complain, stop listening to press conferences! Any coach (and by any, I mean all) is going to say just about the same thing week to week. How many do you see that come out of a press conference after a loss, and people say "yeah, he's right. I don't disagree with that at all!"?

Grow up.

Fulmer saying anything other than "I Resign" is unacceptable.

I would like to hear him say that he is not going to lean on near decade-old accomlplishments and further divide the fanbase just to scratch whatever itch it is that he has.

:eek:lol:I like it, but sadly, that won't do it. "I resign." Those are the only two words that will suffice.
