...with every loss and mounting frustration we end up taking pot shots at each other. Having been a fan since age 6...over 50 years, one thing that has been huge in my feelings about Tennessee football is the Volunteer spirit...we are all in this together, tough times come and go but a true VOL always rises back up, we stick together and support our players as well as each other.
Since becoming a serious fan, late 1960's I have seen 3 coaches come and go, some things I liked about all 3 and then there were aspects of all I was not crazy about. But I always support Tennessee regardless of who is prowling the sidelines. It is the tradition and spirit of Tennessee football that has remained constant, although in the past three years I sense this spirit starting to unravel...amongst many of us.
End of sermon, I am awaiting the resulting criticism.
GO VOLS beat scaro, I 'll be wearing my hat and decked out in ORANGE.
A have a friend in the media. Fulmer will definitely be gone after the season. It probably won't be announce until after the Vandy game.
All of you who think a bowl, seven wins, or a highly ranked recruiting class will save Fulmer are wrong. He has more than worn out his welcome. He slid in the back door to get the job in the first place!
Fulmer is Toast! :yahoo:
well hell, let's hire Gen. Neyland again. He used to be competent as well. Nobody cares that he might struggle on the sidelines today. That's irrelevant. He was competent at one time and could be again.Wow, I didn't realize that incompetent coaches posted a 75% winning record, multiple SECCs and a NC! What exactly is your definition of a "competent" coach?

We may be unhappy with him lately but let's at least be fair to the guy and his legacy. Most schools revere coaches that win them a NC despite what happens when their program takes a downturn as every program does. Fulmer deserves that respect as well.
Yeah, Miami and Michigan are both prepared to name urinals in the media bathroom after Larry Coker and Lloyd Carr.

Not at all. I'm saying hire him now, regardless of current evidence that says he has passed away since his best seasons. I'm thinking he can still get back some of the old magic. Are you implying that if the General was alive that you wouldn't want him on the sidelines? The game changes but the fundamentals don't. I'm confident that Neyland would hire coordinators who are knowledgeable about todays game while he instilled what it means to be a Vol in them. There certainly wouldn't be as many off-field problems.
And our yearly losses to our rivals aren't piling up?I said most. And Lloyd Carr was very well-liked at Michigan until the yearly losses to Tressel starting piling up. Larry Coker's NC was an end to Miami's era of dominance and ushered in their current mediocrity. It's no surprise that Coker was not beloved as even the most ignorant fan of the U could see that he was bad for their program. Plus those were not Coker's recruits.
And how much of that 75% has come since the NC? How many SEC Championships since then? How aobut our record against the big boys of the SEC since the NC?
Michigan dumped Carr, Miami dumped Coker 5 years after he won an NC, 4 years after getting BACK to the NC game, and 3 years after getting to a BCS bowl.

How is my analogy ridiculous. You're supporting Fulmer for things that happened 10 years ago or longer and ignoring the most recent 10 years, which any reasonable analysis would weight the heaviest in making a judgment.Your analogy is ridiculous. Coaches in Fulmer's situation have gone on to turn things around and have moderate success. We don't want moderate success and that's why Fulmer needs to move on soon. My only issue is with calling him incompetent. Sure brings in some good recruits for being a complete hack.
