Chris low said on sports talk this morning, that if Fulmer wins the sec he will be expecting an extension and a raise, and said it could get "ugly" if he does not. What does everyone think of those apples?

He doesn't get an extension if he win the East. If he wins the SEC outright and beats LSU, give the man a raise. Fulmer has had to earn respect back and he and Chavis got it back from me yesterday for the most part.

:eek:hmy: I think Mike H. needs to take it year by year. If Fulmer wins the SEC. and our bowl game then yeah i think he should get one more year. Im no Fulmer backer but if the guy wins games, thats all i ask of him.

I'm ok with a raise in this case....his contract is through 2013, so I see no need to look at an extension right now

If he wins the SEC outright and takes us to a BCS bowl (and wins) give the man a raise.

If he takes us to the SEC champ game and we lose, and win our bowl game then let him be.

If we go to the SEC champ game lose, and then lose the bowl game... then that is a 5 loss season and Mr. Fulmer needs to be asked nicely to do what is best for our football program and step down.

I agree except a little about the first part. Give him a raise, not an extension. He will already be here through 2013. If we lose to LSU and win our bowl, he should be told he has to win the SEC next year.

Compensation should be based on merit. Winning the SEC will almost offset the embarrassment we received in Gainesville and Tuscaloosa. But looking at the body of work for the year, even if we win the SEC, I don't think it merits an extension, and only a token raise at most. He's already making > $2 million a year. Only winning another national title should increase that figure materially.

Fair enough. Most importantly, it shouldn't give Fulmer tenure.

I agree.. winning the sec would be great. But in my mind not enough for an extension or a raise. He is allready one of the highest paid coaches..should we beat lsu and win the bowl game then maybe a small raise but certianly not an extension. First things first though we have to win the next 2 games.

I think that is pretty fair. I like Fulmer, but before he gets a major raise we need to see a national championship apearance, or a couple of SEC titles in a row with dominating seasons to boot.

I would think that he retires after something like this though.

He's only 4th highest in his own conference and I think 9th or 10th in the country. That is still pretty high, but considering there are 3 coaches in front of him that have never won a National Championship.....

Fulmer's $2.05 million is actually a bargain considering all that he's accomplished. Granted he may not be earning his worth right now, but if we win the SEC Championship, and furthmore a BCS Bowl, he deserves a few hundred thousand more at least, which will still leave him 4th in the conference and 9th overall. haha

Definitely agree with no extension. All that means is a higher buyout. His contract is for a few more years anyway so leave it at that.

The $17 million they'd bring in for a BCS Bowl appearance would be fair enough to give him some more money.

Not win the East: discuss retirement. Win the East: one more year. Win the SEC: raise his salary. Is that fair? That sounds like the gist of what most people are saying on here.

doesn't he get a performance bonus for winning the SEC, and possibly the East div.?

He deserves neither...

If his defenders are going to say that 5-6 was an anomaly, then I would counter that making it to ATL with embarrassing losses to Florida and Bama during their down years are equally rare.

if Fulmer leads us to an SECCG win and bowl win, i think he breaks even for the public humiliation we suffered at UF and UA. no raise, only praise.

It's a sad day when Vol fans are talking about giving a guy a raise because he goes 10-4 and losing the SEC Championship game after several sub par seasons. At Tennessee, you are expected to win 10 games a year and anything less is an underacheivement. He needs several seasons of being at the top again before he gets more money or an extension. Just because bama is stupid and willing to pay a guy 4 million a year to win 7 or 8 games, we don't have to.

Exactly. The reason for giving someone a raise is for performing above expectations and as an incentive for them to stay in their current job and continue the progress. Well, right now, we are lucky to even be meeting expectations right now and there is no threat from any other school of offering Fulmer a higher paying job.

He's getting $2 million and should be grateful for every penny he gets right now...

No and no. Listen, the game yesterday did nothing to change my opinion that a change in HC is needed. Just like the win over Georgia had no effect and neither will what happens with the rest of the season or post season. To keep status quo will mean we will be stuck with the mediocrity and continue to slip furthur. I have nothing personal against Fulmer and I thank him for his contributions to the University and the Program. I hope he will use any success he may enjoy, as we approach the end of this season, to bow out on a high note. If not, I believe we will be visiting this same controversy next year. It's enevitable that some athletes and coaches try to extend their careers past that point that would be advisable. Most of us have been wittness to it. I even remember seeing The Bear go out a little past his time and remembering how pathetic it looked. There are plenty of other examples if you look around. IMO, the longer it takes to make this change, the more damage will be done and the longer it will take to turn things around.
