I'm not sure what you re asking.

My point was Phil didn't need the AD job. I dont think he was low on funds at the time.
No Phil didn’t need the job. He wanted the job. He has a big ego. He wants to win. He did beat Saban the one time in 01 and he best Bama 11 in a row.

JP record after 2 seasons, 5 games

15-15

Johnny Majors record after 2 seasons, 5 games

13-13-1

guess we should have got rid of JM

Majors was a Tennessee legend & had won a NC as a head coach. Everyone here would admit Majors would have never survived his first 5 yrs by today’s standards. Pruitt couldn’t shine Majors shoes. A better comparison for Pruitt would be Mr Potatohead

Fulmer couldn't get a hold of the program in 2005 nor in 2008, posting losing records in the conference, losing connection with the average fan, the pace and changes in the SEC, leaving a zero coaching tree save for Cutcliff who was hired at Ole Miss to sign Eli Manning, where all SEC schools began putting staffs together that could seriously coach, recruit and scheme real game plans, with resumes and real success, while Fulmer simply flamed out, stammered around and talked about his "equity" in the program, I don't think he's learned much since, though the whole Curry hatchet job was pretty slick and paybacks are hello, still cost the school over a million dollars

When Hamilton pulled the trigger on Coach Ocho (after signing a new contract that automatically extended after 8 wins) in 2008, his services were not in demand for any other program and after he crashes with the athletic director's position, he's already alienated Ricky Barnes, there will not be any other schools knocking on the door either and the carnage left of the football program will look much like 2008, except no other school will have burned up so much cash and alienated so many of their fans and boosters like Tennessee has over the last 3 seasons and over the next two, aight?

First, Pruitt has proven that he’s not capable of identifying top assistants. Going forward, Fulmer should interview all assistants before any offer is made. Pruitt blew a lot of money hiring a $175k a year assistant for $650kx 2. Who in the hell does that? CJP got lucky that Helton found another job. Otherwise, UT would be paying for him.

Second, Fulmer needs to lay down the law to the entire staff. Failure to recruit is not an option and grounds for dismissal WITH CAUSE. Get your lazy ass busy, Wienke, Friend, etc.

Third, Fulmer needs to explain to Pruitt (he’s obviously too dumb to know) the impact having a young QB can have on recruiting. No reasonable high school kid is excited about playing with JG. They might be if a soph or freshman is playing. Hell, everyone else in the SEC can get freshmen ready, why can’t Tennessee?

Whether Fulmer succeeds or not is gonna be tied to Pruitt. I doubt Fulmer will hire the next coach if Pruitt gets fired.
I am sure he is reading this post multiple times to make sure he doesn’t miss one iota of your utter brilliance. (At least that is what you believe)

Fulmer never beat Alabama 11 years in a row. That was Alabama's win streak against that ended in 1982.

They did allow Mike Hamilton to hire two. Probably the two worst hires in the history of the program as well.

If anybody really believes that hard-headed stubborn coach of ours is letting Fulmer in the middle of his business, y’all are crazy. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that the only voices Pruitt listens to for coaching advice are the ones in his own head.

Then he for sure make a HUGE mistake on the last hire/fire! (Should take the money out of Pruitt's paycheck)

Fulmer didn’t have a great track record of hiring assistants himself.

Let us not forget Fulmer was brought in to stop the bleeding from Currie’s mistakes and our fanbase understandably rejecting Schiano. I will not blame this failure on Fulmer IF that is what it turns out to be. So far, things are not looking so good.

We had one of the top defenses in the country the year Fulmer got fired. Had he been given more time he would have found a way to fix the offense after losing Cutcliffe. He actually tried to go in a new direction philosophically to utilize a dual-threat QB. He simply was not given enough time. Dave Clawson is still a Power 5 head coach even though Tennessee suffered its worst statistical offensive season in over 30 years. so you can't honestly say that was a terrible hire if he thought he would be given time to completely revamp the offense. He could have hired a pro-style OC and continued to lose to Florida and kept his job.
