First, Pruitt has proven that he’s not capable of identifying top assistants. Going forward, Fulmer should interview all assistants before any offer is made. Pruitt blew a lot of money hiring a $175k a year assistant for $650kx 2. Who in the hell does that? CJP got lucky that Helton found another job. Otherwise, UT would be paying for him.

Second, Fulmer needs to lay down the law to the entire staff. Failure to recruit is not an option and grounds for dismissal WITH CAUSE. Get your lazy ass busy, Wienke, Friend, etc.

Third, Fulmer needs to explain to Pruitt (he’s obviously too dumb to know) the impact having a young QB can have on recruiting. No reasonable high school kid is excited about playing with JG. They might be if a soph or freshman is playing. Hell, everyone else in the SEC can get freshmen ready, why can’t Tennessee?

Whether Fulmer succeeds or not is gonna be tied to Pruitt. I doubt Fulmer will hire the next coach if Pruitt gets fired.

The thing that kills me is UT is paying Ansley 1 million a year to be DC and allegedly he isn't even calling the defense. I've also heard that Pruitt is allowing Friend to meddle on the offensive side of the ball

These are terrible points when discussing Fulmer

1- that happened to Fulmer and was a disaster. So bad it got him fired

2- Fulmer allowed Chavis to not recruit

3- early on Fulmer played seniority until all his other qb's were hurt. He stuck with EA while much of the vol world screamed for Crompton.

I don’t think anybody is calling the defense since we haven’t seen any played lately.

He's our best recruiter and arguably the only person on the staff who is actually making this program better. Maybe he should be the head coach?

Crompton actually played well in that LSU game

Whether you approve or disapprove of the job Pruitt is doing, Fulmer needs to stay out of how Pruitt manages things unless Pruitt goes to him for advice. There is nothing worse than a micromanager.

It's one thing to identify top assistants - it's another to be able to hire them because you have reputation of being abrasive and hard to work with...
