I'd love to be one of the good Southeastern Conference schools -- say, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, LSU -- recruiting against Alabama now.

We're Alabama's ancient rival, we play them every year, we recruit more directly against them than any of those teams except Auburn, there's recent bad blood between the schools over recruiting -- and we're not one of the first third of the conference that Wilbon thinks to mention?

Hahaha....sorry! I'm still having trouble dealing with re-entry into the post-New Year routine, I suppose, and still a little crabby.

It's just a dangerous place we're edging into. You know Wilbon knows about Tennessee and Alabama, so if he's not mentioning us in a list of good SEC teams then you know we're sliding off the radar. And since our success entirely depends on the MARQUEE VALUE!! of playing for Tennessee driving out-of-state recruiting, being seen as irrelevant is not something we can really afford.

Fulmer has losing records against all those team's coaches. Not surprising. UT has finished outside the top 25 more often then it has finished inside the top 25 this decade.

Wilbon is an NBA guy, don't think he knows how intense the 3rd Sat of October is. Bama hasn't really been relevant in awhile so the rivalry hasn't been as public as in the past. Wilbon doesn't know college football he's just talking to talk.

Wilbon is at least aware of the Tennessee-Alabama thing; I remember a column he wrote about SEC football that mentioned the Fulmer-turning-them-in controversy. You have to assume that his perception reflects a general national perspective, which is that TN is not only not a national program right now, but not even one of the better teams in our own conference.

Which is not news, of course; the standings have certainly reflected that for several years. It's just frustrating to listen to all these national guys list all the reasons why the SEC is such a tough conference and not include us as one of the factors. (And deservedly so.)

Yep your right. I mean it couldn't be that Wilbon just didn't mention UT. Give me a break. I listen to sports radio and watch ESPN a lot and I have heard some not mention Florida. What does that mean? Do you think just maybe it is the fact that the SEC has a ton of good teams and they just rattle off what is on the top of their head at the time? Just because they don't mention one of the top teams doesn't mean a damn thing.

Of course they rattle off what's at the top of their head; that's the point. We don't come to mind because the only thing UT has done on a national level in the last half-decade is to start off 2005 ranked #3 and proceed to rattle off a losing season. We're perceived as a spoiler in the SEC now, not one of the contenders.

So the other day when Forde rattled off some of the SEC teams and didn't mention Florida what did that mean?

Huge difference between Forde possibly neglecting to mention a team playing for the NC and Wilbon not mentioning the team that just lost the Outback Bowl to an unranked Penn State team as "good." One is a silly oversight, the other a recognition of reality. Some here may not understand that difference however.

Of course not. It has to be a negative about UT. Look man you guys are REALLY reaching. I've heard them leave out LSU, UGA, UF, UT, and Auburn. It means nothing.

I, too, think we're reading a bit much into his oversight, given he's media and they're so bent on "what have you done for me lately"

Colin Cowherd was talking about how the SEC has some of the best coaches and started naming them. No Fulmer.

I dont think that was an oversight.
