From Jalen's Mom on FB

This whole situation had Jalen's bio dad written all over it. Wouldn't surprise me if that's who Vol74 turned out to be. Would also explain why mom's reaction is worded that way.

Correct, and isn't he a Bama fan too.

It never really does though. Most of the time we get innuendo and second hand stories that omit selected portions.

And everyone will spin the story to fit their needs. Folks will believe who they want to believe based on the agenda they want to push.

Bottom line is that we have a player who does not want to be part of the team. I say let Jalen move on with his life and career and let team 120 move on with the year.

Having children myself that are now young adults, I can certainly sympathize. Classy post from his Mom, and I think we all now just appreciate what he has meant to Tennessee, wish him well, and move on. Stop with the rumors and speculation and blame games and just move on. Regardless of why he made this decision, we wouldn't be where we are today if not for his contributions on the field and in helping recruit. Time now to focus on winning out.

Do not believe that his family didn't have some input in this decision. Yeah children make dumb decisions but often times they are only mimicking observed behavior whether we like it or not as parents. Yeah his an adult but I don't believe for one second he made this decision on an island by himself with not outside advice.

A classy note to Vol fans on FB:

"While it was not my choice for Jalen to leave Tennessee (and we were adamant about this), this is a decision that he put a lot of thought into and certainly did not take lightly. It is not my place to discuss his business and the reasons that he’s decided to transfer, but at the end of the day, he believed that it was best for everyone. People are mad, hurt and very upset, and I understand that. Yet, the reality is if you don’t know what he has been through or what he is going through now, then it is very easy to speculate & judge, make up lies & rumors, or heaven forbid, actually believe them.

Jalen has chosen a different path. We don’t always agree with our children’s decisions, but nevertheless, you love and support them through it all no matter what. Thank you to all of our family, friends and Vol supporters that were so kind to us today. We are so thankful and appreciative to the University of Tennessee, the coaching staff and the wonderful fans for all the love and support throughout the years. Many blessings and much success to you all. 💕"

If this is really Jalen's mother, then he is blessed. Also, as I read about his departure, I am starting to understand, if not outright support, his decision to leave.

This VFL is a human battering ram, as he showed so many times in games. His running style does not fit an offensive scheme that requires him to run into a D-line after getting the ball while standing still next to the QB. I am inclined to agree with others that Debord/Butch demanded that he fit into this scheme rather than scheme around Jalen's strengths (e.g. the I formation).

My guess is that Jalen just didn't see himself as having a chance to help his team and be successful running the ball in the zone-read scheme. It is asking a lot of any RB, even a mule like Hurd, to plow into a mass of 300-lb. D-linemen from a standing start...which, in my opinion, is why we saw him start trying to run around the edge so often. But he just didn't have quite the speed of a Kamara or Kelly to do that.

Best wishes to you, Jalen, wherever you land. Thanks for the great play.

Good post. Jalen will be great in the right offense. He was great in our offense when someone actually blocked for the guy. Our biggest problem is our Oline gets no push. They play like they are in quicksand.

Agree. He was getting punished in our offensive scheme. Butch never adjusted for his style like I'm sure Jalen was told he would. Butch just cannot make adjustments to his personnel.

Yeah, you can like and respect him, his mom, his play - whatever. But he ain't no VFL, not now. Let's not cheapen that.

I never imagined it would've come down to this. I think before the season started we all envisioned Jalen becoming the all-time leading rusher at the University of Tennessee, the team at least making a New Years Six Bowl, then Jalen heading off to the NFL after the season.

Now, there will forever be a sour taste left in everyone's mouth because of this whole situation.

Yes, he made a decision based on what he felt was in his best interest; I get that. But it still sucks that it had to end this way.

Classy post by his mom, though. Go Big Damn Orange!

At the very least, someone should have talked him into playing out these last 4 regular season games. He should have toughed it out another month. Quitting now will not help him at all and it will come up when he interviews with NFL scouts.

It is very nice to not only read her comment but to see the comments from the posters on the message board. I'm glad they have pulled back their venom and their disdain for the situation Jalen is put himself in. Best of luck young man and best of luck to his mother as well.

I just have a feeling that the program has some serious issues. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. I don't think the players have the confidence in the coaches to consistently get it done. UT should have 5 losses right now and if it weren't for a very talented team, that would probably be the case. Remember when Dooley lost the team? Feels very similar. This sux and I'm tired of it. Here is a committee that I'd like to see make our next hire for next year: (Not some AD, former coach, or search committee un related to UT)

Peyton
Al Wilson
Priest
Holloway
Henderson
Shuler
Travis Stephens

Hate to lose him. Was a great note from his Mom. Wish him only the best. We never used him properly. Our Oline was pitiful, is pitiful, and will be in the future. His leaving for another school is best for his draft status. A better Oline, not playing in the SEC, he might win the Heisman in a diff league. He is a really good back. Wouldn't that frost Butch"s Wheaties!

All the best to Jalen and his family. Wish him nothing but the best moving forward. Anyone could see that he was not suited for this type of offense. That's on the coaching staff not him, so good luck buddy. I will always be a fan!

One could also say they were coached to be resilient and not give up to adversity. Winning close games is what we've failed to do for years, now when we win them and lose to Bama (1), aTm (8) and Scar (admittedly a bad loss) there's smoke? I don't buy that, not yet.

Look I get it, fans were whipped into a lather of hype after a blow out over Northwestern. Northwestern. Is it possible that we need to pump the brakes a little on the "losing the team" after a couple of 19 year olds get butt hurt?

Wouldn't a spoiled brat, me first, selfish player stayed and got the all time rushing record at UT. Wouldn't a selfish player stay for 4 more games and give a halfassed effort then go prepare for the NFL? But he didn't, he stepped aside because he knew his heart wasn't in it to give UT his best effort. Goes to show how bad things might just be, huh?
