Not sure what you mean by collecting a check? He's earned one IMO...

When Barnes was hired, people were disappointed. The common theme was that Barnes was washed up and came here to finish out his career and draw a check
That prediction was wrong, as he is coaching strong and recruiting well

James dropped a career-high 42 points to lead Porter-Gaud past Stall, 78-68, in the 26th annual Roundball Classic Saturday at North Charleston High School. The five-star Tennessee signee scored 20 points by halftime despite being double and triple-teamed most of the game. He pulled down 12 rebounds, handed out five assists, nabbed four steals and blocked four shots to help the Cyclones finish 2-1, in fifth place, in the Foundation bracket.

Josiah James scored Porter-Gaud’s first 21 points in a 62-43 win at Heathwood Hall Tuesday in Columbia. James logged every one of his team’s points in the opening quarter as Porter-Gaud built a 15-8 lead. He was the only Cyclone to score for more than five minutes into the second quarter too, finishing with 25 in the half as Porter-Gaud took a 30-16 lead into the break. James poured in 13 more in the third quarter before sitting the rest of the night with the Cyclones comfortably ahead. He finished with 38 points and nine rebounds.

“We were starting to communicate to him last year that he was going to have to take on more of the scoring,” Porter-Gaud coach John Pearson said. “He knew this was coming. And it’s like a light switch. He just took to it. It’s so natural for him and it’s going to serve him well at the next level.”

James' season averages going into that game: 23.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 5.7 blocks per game.

Watching video of some of James' games this season, the high school game looks like it moves in slow motion for him. He makes it look very effortless at times. He also is solidly built. Very muscular upper body for a high school guard. Whereas a guy like Davonta Gaines, Drew Pember, Jalen Johnson will need quite a bit of strength training and nutritional guidance to gain weight and get stronger, James is already at a size that should allow him to be effective as a freshman getting to the rim. His shot also looks to have improved a bit.

Back to James. Do y'all think Barnes is looking at him like a combo or as a full time PG? A lot will obviously be expected out of Jordan Bone next year.
My feeling is he'll take JBs breaks at the 1 but get looks in the mix at the 2 as well. All that if he comes in ready.

Things can change, but James has been told from the beginning that he's being recruited has a pg. And that's what he wants. We'll see.

And he usually doesn't play the 4th quarter.

We have so much to look forward to. The rest of this season and for seasons to come. Tennessee will be in the mix for SEC Championships for quite awhile.

Give us 5 more years Coach Barnes. You will be a Vol legend for eternity.
