It is rare that Freshmen come in and contribute heavily in the SEC. However, the offseason threads are slow so I'll throw out a question.

Which two freshmen would be the most impactful if they contribute?

I'm going to go with

1) Ty Chandler and it's not close
2) Jordan Murphy. With Josh Smith in question we really only have 5 decent WRs and probably only one star. If he could come in and give us 10-15 snaps where he makes an impact it would go a long way towards success.

EDIT: Clarification from the OP. My picks were need based selections. If you look at the depth chart RB is terribly thin and WR isn't accomplished as a unit.

My picks were based upon if there were two players we NEED to contribute, who would they be?

Trey Smith is obviously ready to contribute, but it could be argued that even if he didn't play his position would be ok.

i think Trey Smith probably has the best chance to be a significant contributor. by all accounts, he's basically ready to play now, and should figure in to the rotation quite a bit.

no idea about chandler, but it stands to reason he should get carries...how much of an impact? tough to say. Kelly, barring injury, should be the workhorse.

Murphy, again, no clue. we could be really deep at WR, and there's probably not 10-15 balls a game for him.

I don't really see a spot for many freshman, but if I had to guess it would obviously be Trey Smith first.

Second....with the vulnerability of Tuttle the last two years, Crosby could come in and contribute quite a bit.

With the new rule of freshman being able to play up to four games without burning a redshirt, I'd like to think that a lot of freshman will get some snaps if we're winning early on.

Trey Smith
Ty Chandler

Jordan Murphy, Interested to see him
Maleik Gray, maybe gets some snaps depending on how he does coming in.
Cheyenne Labruzza, I'm really excited to see this dude.
Probably some DT and DE gets some playing time with some different rotations.

Ty Chandler has big shoes to fill in. No wonder, a big time horse love lover, is going to be a national dark-horse candidate.

He is physical, good change of pace and runs like a Horse 😁👍. Ill be an immediate contributor

Check out his video on horses, country man and a legit running back

Trey Smith and Ty Chandler are the most obvious choices for me right now. For other positions it will depend on injuries. We are paper thin at DEs and WRs too.
Also they would be wise to give some early reps to Eric Crosby and other DTs just in case the injury bug hits again middle of the season.

A big time horse love lover...I'm not sure how to take this.

Matthew Butler. Big, fast, great hards, driven and extremely confident. Parade All-American DE, that had, like 36 sacks last year. I think Butler makes the freshman All-SEC team and meets his goal of 8 sacks, this year.

Jordan Murphy. The smooth, fast and polished WR out of Mississippi.

I like Chandler and Smith, too. But, that would have been too easy

I'd hold off on that statement till we see what Tyler Byrd can do with a throw-first QB. I've seen very few people dominate the US Army All-American game like he did. Kid has some serious speed and talent.

I meant 10-15 quality snaps... Not balls per game.

I'm not sure why, but Eric Crosby's film doesn't jump out at me. The plays where he is running the ball are impressive for his size...but I don't see the "Pop" off the ball at DL. I hope he surprises me.

Trey Smith. He's already got 1st Round Draft Pick potential.

Only concern with Trey contributing as much early on as the consensus thinks he will is the gigantic step up in competition. Enrolling early will help but it's a giant step from TN small school private ball to SEC football. You can practice and scrimmage all you want but there's an acclimation period to get used to playing 60-70 snaps a game against a SEC line when compared to playing 60-70 snaps against 5'10 205 lb DEs who run a 5.2 40.

10-15?! Number 1 receivers in air raid offenses rarely see 15 targets a game. I think you mean 2-4, and Murphy could definitely find 2-4 touches in a game if he's as talented as we hope.

Edit: Just saw the explanation. Makes way more sense.

i was responding to another post, not speculating. and the OP clarified his original statement to mean 10-15 snaps, not touches.

either way.....
