I don’t think them filling the pitching coach role means anything in regards to Frank. I think he’s in play for a front office advisor role for the org. Work with young guys in the org at spring training, be an advisor/sounding board, etc. He was never going to be a part of the 162 grind with the travel and all that.
Yeah, it's almost like the baseball gods are trying to make things as difficult and unpleasant as possible as we run up to the season. How is it still a question?
Tony was hired a month ago. Frank's decision on whether he was going with him or staying(assuming Tony offered him the job) also should have been made a month ago.
Could this whole transition of Tony(and whoever he's taking with him) have moved at any more of a snails pace than it has?
What a way to go out. Instead of being on the field in the action, you fade away behind a desk? In San Francisco? Yeah...sign me up for that.I don’t think them filling the pitching coach role means anything in regards to Frank. I think he’s in play for a front office advisor role for the org. Agreed. As you wrote, they have a succession plan in place for Frank Anderson with Josh Reynolds, and for Sean McCann as Zach Stovall was hired for analytics. With that said, Sean McCann is way underrated, and would be a huge loss for TN.I think Frank has been year to year for a while now anyway. Given his age and life situation I don't blame him a bit. I assumed that's why they picked up Josh Reynolds and that he'd take the wheel when CFA decides to move on.
He's got 3 good options. Another year (and maybe last ride) at a place he likes with a deep staff. A year in a Front Office/Consultant type role in the big leagues that probably keeps him at home in Texas much more and is more flexible on time and family situations. Or retire and do whatever he wants.
I'll tip my hat to whatever he choses. He's earned it.
Tell Tony that Frank is free to take the job.... in July after we're done winning our second National titleIf you hear Tony's interview, I heard this morning, he talked about what he thinks he can add to the Giants. He said his ability to teach the young players like he did in college would be the biggest thing to offer. I think that would be his role for Frank if he goes. That he can invest in the young guys drafted straight out of HS. I don't think he is going but if he does he will be great at it.
Which interview was this, out of curiosity? If you hear Tony's interview, I heard this morning, he talked about what he thinks he can add to the Giants.
