good recruiter? "the experts" say our talent doesn't match up.....but yet we seem to always have a highly ranked class year after year......

No . . . but he is responsible for writing what amounted to a tabloid style story that created an environment where an ad like this was inevitable.

He certainly introduced an emotional component to the mix.

Here is the pdf file. Glad to see that most of my favorites were not on the list! One of you engineers or math people get some percentages from us. How many people on the list actually played under CPF while he was a head coach? Looks like those that did are in the minority.

i noticed that too.......and i wounldn't have these numbers notorized, but looks like 191 total signatures, with 54 being from players that played under CPF from 1992 (as an interim HC) to present......so 28%.

i'm not sure what years he was O Line coach and OC, but there is likely a larger number of players that played for him as the OC or O Line coach in the 80's. I would say though, that probably the majority played under him in one capacity or another.

and it may be more ineteresting that there are a number of players that didn't play for him as HC. what should that tell us? it could be they have no frame of reference speicifically in relation to him as a HC, or as former players, who should have a lot more pride and emotional investment in the program than the general fan, afterall it's thier legacy that's being toyed with, understand what it takes, the pitfalls, and the amount of work it takes to do what has been done over the course of the career, and their opinion is "unique" in that respect, and should bare more credance than what we see from the outside.

yep......interesting to say the least.

I don't get the KNS - what's the gist of the ad? I heard on sportstalk that it was supporting Fulmer and signed by 200 or so former players. Mickey commented he talked to one person who sign the ad and they commented that 4 people said no when asked to sign.

me too. i think back to a quote from Andy Kelly on the Decade of Dominance DVD.........basically he was talking about how Majors was ousted and he summed it up by saying that Majors was UT football and he still couldn't beleive that he wasn't part of TN football in some way shape or form.

whether these guys played with Fulmer or for Fulmer, he's the guy they know, that can't be overlooked.

i guess it's a good thing that they would feel inclined to defend him, and it goes to the point that CPF is always driving home about "family atomsphere" etc.....

but at the end of the day, the emotion has to be removed from the decision, which is tough, no matter wht side you're on.

i know this though, i'm sure Mike Hamilton didn't want to wake up and read that in the paper this morning.

it's bad enough that a good many fans and alumni are asking questions, it doesn't help when former players basically draw a line in the sand.......if he was fired, how would hat affect the "tn football family" as it relates to these guys comging back to Knoxville, interacting with players etc......how much does that matter anyway?

i honestly don't know......but for whatever reason, this just doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. i get the feeling more and more that it's NOT speculation that this program is at a cross roads and MH is standing in the middle looking down each road, and saying.......ok, which way do i go now?
