JC is our QB. NS isn't any better. If he had been better, he would have won the job in camp. We seem to forget that CLK learned from Norm Chow so UCLA had a pretty good idea of what we were gonna do. On some plays it seemed as though they had been in our huddle. Props to UCLA for showing up. Props to Monte's D for playing balls out for 4 quarters. Once again, we just don't have the talent on O to compete every Saturday. With this freshman class and hopefully a strong close on 2010's, we will be well on our way. Our defense will have to keep it respectable in some coming games--namely Florida, poss. Georgia(depending on which GA team shows up), Bama, and maybe even S. Carolina and Auburn if their offenses show up. We can keep it close if the scores are around 20, but start pushing the 30's and we are gonna have problems. That will all change when we start getting the top tier talent on campus again. This is just another example of how complacent CPF's regime had gotten in everything they did--especially in recruiting. It was more than evident yesterday. We are a lot like UCLA's team and they have had 2 good recruiting classes under CRN, and it is paying dividends. They still have a long way to go, but the base is there and their youth looked good yesterday. I think next season will be better and 2011 should really put us back on the map. But, judging from yesterday, we still have miles to go. The offensive talent/depth--ESPECIALLY our OL--just isn't there. We're getting there at RB and WR, but experience will do wonders with both units. Other than that, we have slim pickings on offense. Once again, kudos to our defense--they kept us in the game and shouldn't be a weakness for us for years to come...

Just my opinions...what do you all think?

this is the difference. crompton has talent, but he does not have the mental toughness. if he has problems he crumbles. crompton maybe the better quarterback, not by much, but stephens is mentally tougher and does not break when pressure is on. i have been a supporter of crompton and thought after last week he had been coached up to perform under situations like this, but he didn't learn and i am ready to move on. whoever the qb is i will support. but, yes, i do think its time for a change.

I think if Crompton could get it together mentally, he wouldnt be so bad. Hes got the tools to be a decent qb. IMO Coleman was the guy that shouldve been our starting qb. JC doesnt have it between the ears, just like knucklehead vol said. but I look for the coaches to work with him as long as hes still starting.

Boo Cromton is the best practice qb in the history of the game, thus beating out Stephens.
The problem is, Boo can't perform at game time. Phil Jr really needs to consider playing Stephens if he wants to improve the teams chance of winning.

Because Stephens made the most of his chance last season.

I was just thinking the same thing. Everyone says, Stephens must suck because he couldn't even beat out Crompton. But we all know that Crompton looks All-World in practice (and in a scrimmage-like environment ala WKU last week).

Could it be that Stephens<Practice Crompton, but possible Stephens>>Game time Crompton?

I certainly think it's worth a shot. To the poster above who said NS got his chance last year - what they hey? Everybody's more than willing to give Crompton a new shot because of new system. Let's see what Stephens can do.

For pete's sake, I would be happy if he were simply so-so/serviceable and just avoided giving the game away. That would be an improvement!

If I was a defensive coordinator planning a gameplan to play Tennessee all you have to do is put pressure on Crompton. If you put any kind of pressure on JC he makes bad decisions. Its as simple as that. He cannot handle pressure. He has proved it time and time again. If yall think its going to get better, it won't. Say what you will but JC is not a winner. Its all mental problems with him. He makes poor decisions. I agree that the OLine did not play very well, but the interceptions he threw were not based on the OLine. Florida is going to spread us out next week and the speed of their offensive receivers will destroy us. We will get the ball on offense and then go 3 and out putting our defense back on the field. I hate to admit it but as long as JC is our QB we cannot expect to win games. I hope Lane Kiffin takes another look at the 2008 film and realizes this. On that note, Go Vols! Oh by the way Kiffin made a horrible decision in starting Moore and Jones.

We ALL know how All-World NS looked in games last season...I honestly don't think either of our QBs are SEC caliber. That's why I don't really see the point of creating controversy and changing QBs. We could go from bad to worse...and at best bad to maybe a little less bad in my opinion. I'm afraid we are just gonna have to hang our hopes on Mr. Bray being the stud he is promoted as being...next season--no year behind Stephens because I just don't think he is the answer either

Very true. I could have possibly understood some playing time for both, but there is no reason whatsoever that Jones should have started. As good as Teague looked last week he should be our main weapon along with Hancock until Jones is 100%, which it was obvious he wasn't. Couldn't plant on that ankle in order to run crisp routes.
