So when people say "just beat Florida, then I'll be happy", they don't mean it?
I keep seeing people essentially trying to shame posters on here with phrases like "I bet at the beginning all you wanted was a win over Florida".
What folks don't look at is the reason we want that win over Florida means we are back, we're top of the east and likely headed to the SECCG. That didn't happen. People are angry and rightfully so. The idea of beating the top teams is to then become the top team. At this point the UF win looks more like a lucky pickup than a declaration of current and future dominance.
tldr: There's no point in beating top teams if your lose to USCjr.
They mean beat Florida..... and it's assumed that if you can beat Florida you will be beating all the other teams that are worse than Florida.
If you asked someone at the beginning of the season would you trade a win against Florida for a loss to USCJr they would have looked at you like you had two heads. And rightfully so. What a ridiculous notion.
The East is Hot Garbage and the best Jones can do with 4 games left is 3rd behind Kentucky
Let that marinate
As an outsider, I just believe that people have looked at the entirety of the season and that's why they are unhappy.
The South Carolina game was no fluke. Why? Because Tennessee has consistently lived on the edge all season long.
Fans, IMO, have actually become smarter and more sophisticated. A win is not a win is not a win.
Bottom line is that we are all chasing the same thing. Right now, Alabama is the standard. Are you closer? Will you be closer next year? Will you get to that level? How long will it take?
Being that this is year 4 and with the recruiting rankings and year by year improvement that occurred up until this season, people thought they'd be knocking on the door.
But, they've gone overtime with Appy state, had to go 4 quarters with Ohio, and lost to SC. They aren't as close as the biggest negavol thought
