Florida recruiting - yikes

I understand completely. You have to realize, we've been through Dooley, Jones and Pruitt. We understand the initial "man crush" with a new coach. We also realize that as you get further acquainted with the new love interest, he might suffer from "Premature Evacuation". Just saying. Pump the brakes a little.

Oh yeah. Boy oh boy do I remember the days of so many people on here pumping up these former Vol coaches, only to see the end result as a complete dumpster fire. Jones actually was the closest to getting the job done, then something just changed....in particular the injury situation and the strange personnel decisions late in his career here. In the end, we were wrecked by every coach after Fulmers firing and have been in constant rebuilding mode. Michigan has been somewhat patient with JH. Will Tennessee and the Gators be patient with their new coaches? Time will tell, though Florida seems to have an even quicker trigger than the Vols.

The thing is, Jones was probably the best recruiter we've had since Fulmer. The problem was he had no idea what to do with that talent.

Imagine Hype with the Dobbs-Jennings combo. Or Dobbs-Malone or Dobbs-Jennings-Kamara...

Jones had all the talent in the world. But he's like the guy that buys a Ferrari after driving an automatic Ford Escort for 20 years. He's going to have issues trying to handle it.

I think that is a very good way to put it.

Eh, he'll never play over AR, but he'll give us some nice depth at the position.
And unfortunately, he's probably our QB depth take this cycle (and he's a very good player, that's not the point) after the absolutely horrible and tragic situation with Robbie Roper...Praying for that kid for sure, sports always takes a back seat to real life.

Read about Roper last night. Just awful.

If you hire the right guy, a school can overcome 1 bad recruiting class. If you hire the wrong guy, it really doesn’t matter how your recruit.

Fla is hoping they got the right guy this time.

The problem is that Mullen didn't recruit all that well over his tenure. Napier gets a Mulligan this year maybe. Maybe UF fans will tolerate a 5 or 6 win season as he "cleans up the mess". But if he doesn't have a really good recruiting class next year then the rumblings will start. They were in denial prior to this season but I think most UF fans now believe that recruiting was Mullen's fatal flaw. That may or may not be true... but it seems to be a common notion.

I suspect Florida will have a good recruiting class next year but Napier has a tougher task with Christobal in Miami than the last several gator coaches have had. Hopefully MC will reduce Alabama's pipeline from South Florida also.

Yeah. I think a strong Miami and to a lesser extent strong FSU helps UT. It could hurt the SEC overall though.

Well, the SEC won its share of NCs before Saban got to Alabama and I suspect the league will win its share after the SOB is gone.
I don't doubt it but the weakness of Miami and FSU has sent players elsewhere. I don't think UT has been a beneficiary of Miami's problems but Bama has gotten some good players that might have gone there.

I think someone will eventually break the code on Saban. He has shown more flexibility than most legacy coaches. Bryant waned toward the end of his career. The game eventually passed Switzer by. Fulmer saw his day come and go. Saban made a major adjustment that worked. He realized that his model wasn't going to work and became more offense focused. But there will come a day when he either zigs and CFB zags or he chooses not to change and someone passes him.

He would have to be virtually clairvoyant to "guess right" every time. Unlike others, I don't think someone cut from the same cloth is going to out-Saban, Saban. Fisher might assemble enough talent to beat him that way but he's not close to being as good of a coach. Same goes for Smart.

Heupel or someone else who is innovative and great on gameday will figure him out. That might have been Freeze if he hadn't coached at Ole Miss and had the other issues.

I doubt Saban will take a nose dive or get overthrown. He's always been one step ahead of the system. At minimum it'll take someone that will out recruit him and the only 2 that have a slight chance at that is smart and fisher. Possibly Kelly but I just don't see him being a good fit there. He'll get knocked down here and there but nobody will consistently beat him. He'll give it up by then

He may quit. If he doesn't, history says that NO ONE is that perfect.

I differ in that I don't think anyone will consistently beat him by outrecruiting him until someone beats him by outcoaching him.
