Florida looks like garbage UPDATE: LOST

Alex Golesh is 16-12 in his 3rd season at South Florida. In the previous 4 seasons, from 2019 through 2022, South Florida had a cumulative record of 8-37. Golesh has done a very good job.
Again look at the schedule comparison to previous coach. He was playing ranked conf teams in Cincy, SMU, UCF and Houston. Golesh got to play 7-9 loss teams like Charlotte and FAU

Ya need to recalibrate. Those preseason discussions seeking to justify Heupel as a top ten active head coach mentioned Golesh more than once. Dude took over a serious dumpster fire. 🔥
Golesh’s top victories at USF and their records

1. Florida (likely 4-8)
2. Syracuse (6-7) - (bowl game)
3. Boise St (likely 8-4)
4. San Jose St (7-6) - (bowl game)
5. Navy (5-7)
6. Rice (6-7)
7. Charlotte (5-7)
8. Connecticut (3-9)
9. FAU (3-9)
10. Temple (3-9)

5 wins???

You are out of your mind. 3, tops. 2 more likely.
I can remember a time when this site went crazy because Napier turned his nose up at the UT HC job.

You know much more about your team than we do but there appears to be a general lack of discipline. Example- getting tossed for spitting in a player's face. I think Lagway air mailed an RPO throw late in the game with a chance to run clock. Just doesn't seem to be a ton of respect for Napier. Reminds me of Fulmer in that regard. Players "liked" him but didn't respect him.

Golesh is already proving he can navigate and succeed in a challenging state of Florida recruiting landscape. Imagine what he could do at UF with the money and resources they have there.

The Gators are a proud program. Even in decline, they are still dangerous simply because the state of Florida has all the talent in the world.
I agree, but I believe the slow decline points to bigger issues. Issues that even the best coach may not be able to overcome. For example, I could be the most productive employee ever, but a bad boss can ruin my productivity.

It used to be Tampa University or University of Tampa. They had campuses in St. Petersburg and Sarasota Mantatee. So they just consolidated into 1 name USF so the other cities would not feel disenfranchised. I remember when Tampa U had a QB named Freddie Solomon who played 11 years for 49ners & Miami Dolphins as a wide receiver back in the day.
USF is a different school from Tampa U I think. Without looking, I though Tampa was a small Jesuit college, but yes Freddie did play for them.

EDIT: I was wrong, it is a private school but not church affiliated. Enrollment is 11K

So for years we wished the FL game wasn’t scheduled for our first conference game of the year. Now we have Gators late in the schedule giving them a chance to get it straightened out before playing TN. Go figure.
Or they will have 2 or 3 wins by then and have fired Sunbelt Billy and all the players are exploring their next transfer. Remember they have a meat grinder of a schedule between now and our game.

I live near the USF campus,my Daughter went there, and a Granddaughter is there now. Most of their recruits are from Tampa and nearby counties, and they're not afraid of anyone.Last week UF fans were talking on social media about running up the score etc. I said it was going to be a close game, and was laughed at,mocked,
and memes about me.Now it is a meltdown over there.

Alex Golesh just beat a ranked opponent in Boise State and then won at Florida.

Jeff Scott was losing to everyone, not just good teams.

Scott's teams won a grand total of 4 games in 3 seasons from 2020 to 2022, and 3 of those 4 wins were against FCS opponents. Don't try to tell me that there hasn't been great improvement at South Florida under Alex Golesh. That argument doesn't make any sense.

Golesh and the USF Bulls this year remind me of younger Bobby Bowden and the FSU "we will play anybody, anytime" mentality when he started there.

I never said they didn’t have improvement. I even like Golesh. But Scott would’ve likely beaten 7 out of his top ten wins even as terrible as he was. My issue is people again jumping on the “he’s amazing and will coach at xyz and we have to worry” BS like they have done with tons of “hot new coaches” in the past when you like at the actual stats and reality, it’s not what they think

Hell his offense is currently ranked below Butch Jones team at Arkansas st right now.

He is beating teams with more talent than what he has…. That’s the definition of a good coach. He is a really good OC and I hope that Florida doesn’t go after him. He has proven himself and will continue to do so…

He’s beaten one team with more talent. Florida who’s in the middle of a 7-9 loss season

As bad as South Florida's defense was under Jeff Scott, that is highly debatable at best. Temple went 3-9 in 2022, and yet they beat South Florida 54-28. 2022 was Jeff Scott's 3rd and final season as the head coach at South Florida.

What did you form this opinion from? It could not have been from the way South Florida recruited high school players in the 5 classes they signed prior to Alex Golesh coaching his first game for them in 2023.

This is where South Florida fell in the 247 Sports College Football Composite Recruiting Class Team Rankings from 2019 to 2023 :

2019 : 75th
2020 : 108th
2021 : 65th
2022 : 91st
2023 : 76th

For the most part, South Florida's talent has been on par (or worse) than that of their competition. Also, they beat Syracuse 45-0 in The Boca Raton Bowl at the end of Alex Golesh's first season in 2023.

This is where South Florida has placed, in the 2 full classes that Alex Golesh has signed so far in 2024 and 2025 :

2024 : 50th
2025 : 62nd

Alex Golesh has improved their talent, but he had to. He didn't inherit much at all from Jeff Scott.
