Florida Game

I like to think how loud/crazy Neyland will be if we beat UF. Possibly louder than '98 or '04?

I have a hard time believing ANY game will be as loud as 1998 Florida. Would LOVE to see it though. The '04 Florida game (when we hit the FG) was the second loudest, but it was a distant 2nd to '98.

Stadium capacity didn't hurt back then, either.

Attendance for '98 Florida game 107,653

Attendance for '04 109,061 (They must've counted refs, concession stand workers, etc) :)

I think we beat Florida this year but I'm concerned about the emotional toll that a win like that would take on the team. Believing that you can win is just the first step in learning to win. The UF game will be huge but this team will have to snap and clear after a big W just as they do an L.

2001 Florida comes to mind. That was a very emotional win and the team seem drained the next week against LSU. I hope the coaches are prepared to manage this team because it's a long season.

Neyland definitely hasn't been as electric lately. But that's to be expected when the results haven't been desirable. I think we get back to it this year, hopefully. Granted, I was younger in the 90's but I was unable to hear myself think back then and in the early 2000's.

If I can still listen to the inner machinations of my mind, then Neyland isn't doing it's job!

'04 FL game was the loudest I've heard. The gator fan a row down from us cried. It was beautiful

After the florida win, will fans storm the field, tear down the goal posts, and parade them around town like 1998??

I sincerely hope not. That would be embarrassing, IMO. Unless Florida is a Top-10 team by that point, which is seriously doubt they will be, we will be the perrenial favorite to win that game and the East. I would even venture to make a guess that the point spread will be somewhere around UT -9.5.

I would really not like to see our fanbase rush the field against a potentially unranked, to #15-#25 ranked Florida team, when WE are the favorite, regardless of how many years its been. Save it for the Alabama game should we beat them. Defending national champs, 9 game losing streak, and most likely will be a Top 5 team. That is a good reason to rush the field.

Depends on whether or not the school lets it happen / puts security in place to prevent it.

Then again, they might also be fine with paying a $250,000 fine.

When you make close to $5 Million a game on ticket sales alone (rough estimate based on average ticket being $50), I would say they would be okay with paying that fine. Especially since it means your program is winning, which usually means its more profitable as well.

But, as I stated previously, I really hope we don't storm the field if we win. Save it for Bama, and keep our dignity in tact.

Just wait until this season and you will understand how loud Neyland truly is in primetime. Last years OU game was so loud that I plugged my ears because it was so damn painful.
I'm making a speech to my section before the Florida game. I need to make sure the fans know how crucial this is for the program.

Been a regular Neyland attendee since 1956 and season ticket holder since 1975. I'm UTK class of '69. I've long since understood how loud Neyland stadium can be at ANY time, my friend. Trust me....

Okay buddy calm down. You act like people are going to walk into the stadium expecting us to be playing the Sisters of the Poor.

It's Florida. People know what's at stake, you don't have to tell anyone. Take my advice, save yourself a little bit of embarrassment and don't make that speech. I don't think many people will be listening intently. Just being honest, sir.

Exactly. Well know fact that had it not been for the system(single-wing), he would have gone to UT, but went with his 2nd choice of Florida.

Thank you for the help.

Jump higher Vols.

It is a well-known fact that Spurrier, himself, made it abundantly clear he was not interested in coming to UT because of the single wing offense we ran. He was never even recruited. How can you state that UT was his 1st choice?? That's purely unsupported speculation on your part. He was one of the most high-profile high school players to ever come out of this state. If he had had any inclination, whatsoever, to become a Vol, the coaching staff would have found a place for him. BTW, you're welcome....

That was also a Nick Saban coached LSU team with a D-line that resembled a mountain

True, and it was the most bizarre reaction to a game-tying touchdown I've ever seen with that much time left to play.

It was as if because UT was supposed to win big, UF wasn't supposed to compete.

It was because a slow, white TE outran our entire pathetic defense.

The wheels totally came off after that play.

The fan base was never fully behind Dooley - they were just waiting for something bad to happen. When it did, the team fell apart and so did the fans. It happened over and over under Dooley. A minor thing,or major, would go against us and instead of fighting back, the team would just give up. Never seen a team quit in the 2nd half of games like Dooleys teams did.

In contrast, Butch's teams have won a few games that I did not think were possible with the point deficit. But they did it.

Could it be one of the loudest ever in Neyland? The shakers are going to be sick. There is a good shot both of us will be ranked inside the top 20. I haven't missed a game against Florida since 06, I've never seen us beat them in person. It would a great way too off my senior year.

You may be cursed. ...take one year off

Why would the fan base of a prohibitive favorite over a lesser team storm the field after what many expect to be an easy home win?

This...
Stadium will be empty by start of 4th quarter, as it is with most blowouts.

Just messin with ya L.W. I do agree that Bama would be more appropriate. Would love to crush them, but I'd take a missed field goal run back with one second left.

Because 100,000 screaming, drunken idiots can get out of hand spontaneously.

I get that, but a school with the tradition of Tennessee shouldn't resort to storming the field against a lesser team, and from just about all accounts Florida is the lesser team this season. Time will tell.

I get 1998...both teams ranked in the Top 5/10, night game, exciting and spontaneous ending for you guys.

I've witnessed fans from FSU (96), UT (98), Auburn (01) and Ole Miss (02) storm the field after beating us, and in every case those schools were the underdog.
