Florida game

Our problem with UF is simple, they have more talent than we do. They had 2 1st rd draft picks last year. They'll have 1 or 2 1st rd picks this year. Heck we'll be lucky if we have any seniors drafted from this class. Next year if Cam and JRM return we'll have a team with at least 6 guys that can go in the 2017 draft. Talent like that wins games. For comparison 2014 Bama had 7 players drafted.

Old talent is so important in college football. It masks bad coaching and makes good coaching look great. Heck, look at Saban's record at MSU when he didn't have great players. Let's see what Butch can do in 2016 with some great players

+1 Science over mysticism for me every time!

For all the talk of why Florida has beaten us more often than not since the 90s, maybe the simplest answer is the best answer...they've just had better teams and coaches.

It starts at the top: UT has had ridiculous leadership since Joe Johnson and Florida has had relative stability. Cheek and Co. are Busch League.

Coaching: UT had a HoF/SEC/NC winning coach in Fulmer...Florida just had a better one in East Tennessee's own HoF/SEC/NC winning Steve Spurrier.

AD: Hamilton v Foley...no words.

Hell we've been so messed up for so long that even when a bona fide loser like Muschamp landed in Gainesville, we couldn't capitalize because the roster had eroded damn near to a FCS level.

Now I'm as pissed as the next guy about coaching errors leaving wins on the field this year. But A) While games were winnable, Butch's margin for error was virtually zero due to youth, and that's the truth. B) Nobody's perfect (Saban Kick Six was a huge unforced error by the Great One himself, for just one example) and C) I wouldn't change spots with any program in the SEC East right now. Roster talent, culture, morale, academics (smarts are often under-appreciated as a factor of winning football), and trajectory are all light years ahead of where they were three years ago.

Light years. And like it or not, Butch and Hart, being that they're in charge and all, are primarily responsible.

SO call it sunshine or whatever you want, but I'm looking forward to what comes and will enjoy the ride, bumps and all. It's been a long vol walk through the wilderness and for my two cents, I think I see us coming back, and right soon.

I feel that we always play Florida too early. It takes a few games to find your identity as a team, even if most of your talent is returning. I always thought it would be beneficial to play a cupcake first game, then Vandy and Uk, THEN start playing the really tough opponents. Just my two cents though.

We are Florida's cupcake.

Schedule. Jmo

To what degree? I realize we lost to Florida- but we beat teams we should have convincingly like KY, Vandy, etc. teams FL struggled with.

Matchups obviously come into play, but so does execution.

This year we beat the teams we should have convincingly minus S.Carolina when in recent memory we weren't.

Idc if Chubb was injured against us, or if Mizzou sucked this year. We've had more talent last year and still lost and hadn't beat them since they joined the SEC.

What a load of crap. Coaching got us beat this year. Plain and simple.

I respect your opinion. I personally believe our youth and lack of depth hurt more than anything, especially on the defense side of the ball.

We had more depth and experience on defense than Florida's offense ever dreamed of having this year.

Makes no difference. We can't, and won't beat Florida.

Only way we make it to the SECCG is to win out after Florida and hope they lose 2-3 conference games.
Strong.

No, next year is not our year. They've won eleven years straight. It's theirs to lose until proven otherwise.
Stronger.

I think it's fair to say that they can put down a "W" by our names on their annual schedule even when they don't have a great coach.
Stronger still.
I already have this game penciled in as a L.
Strength meter broken.

no way man. 3 seniors and 8 jrs starters on defense plus many redshirts. we had multiple true freshman and a walk-on in the 2 deep http://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-depth-charts/depth-chart/florida/90498

also they are ranked #6 total defense while tennessee is #46, so i'm pretty sure florida's defense isn't dreaming about tennessee at all this year.

Well they signed a 5 star QB prospect...only freshman QB's beat us so no...no i don't think next year is the year.

I haven't watched Franks' film how does it compare to JG's? I have a Florida fan at work who raves about Franks saying he is the next Tebow..

It's been discussed a million times on here. Their entire OL returned 10 total starts....all by one guy. When they scored the winning TD they had 3 freshmen on the field at OL. They started a redshirt freshman QB. They started at true soph WR transitioning from RB. The WR Callaway who scored the winning TD was a true freshman. Their other WR was a true soph.

Otoh, we started 2 seniors at safety, a junior at nickel, a junior and a soph at cornerback, a junior linebacker, a senior and RS Jr at DT, a junior and soph at DE.

You're out of you're ever-loving mind if you think we didn't have a major advantage in age and experience vs their offense.

Are you referring to our starting MLB Jumper or his replacement freshman Kirkland? Or maybe our freshmen D tackles that had to play more bc we had an upper classman suspended. Maybe our freshman D end who had to play bc our senior was injured in the 2nd game. Probably not referring to the face injury Sutton suffered against OU that caused him to avoid big hits. And for sure not talking about our starting nickel back that got injured late in fall practice. But other than that I can see the more depth and experience

They say everyone is the next Tebow just like we say everyone is the next Manning. There isn't another Tebow or Manning so we all can calm down and let new QB's make their own name

Okay.

So my main point was how does his film compare to JG's? I know Frank's is a pro style passer on rivals but that's all..TIA

Until any SEC freshman QB actually plays significant snaps against an SEC defense the D should have the advantage. Our 2015 D was very lackadaisical on the play that beat us.

The truth is that the defense only won one game for us this year and that was SC. They had plenty of opportunities but failed every time but that one. Defense wins championships.

I'm convinced the naysayers (aka Negavols) will still complain even when TN beats Fl next year.
