Florida = Cupcake Game

I remember Fulmer having problems with clock and game management in the big games with close scores. He'd stop running the offense and get way too conservative, and worse, he'd do it way too early.
Same old story. Shut down your offense, the opponent catches up, try to get your offense going again like it was early in the game, and it's cold, and doesn't work. Some coaches never understand that you can't just turn an offense off and back on like that.
Yup. When you call a timid game, the team, shockingly, begins to play timid. And then when you realize you need to dial it back up on offense, there’s pressure on the offense and they’ll still likely be playing timid.

Florida will have no where near the talent on the field that we will have. I'm not sure if Florida has a secondary or a pass rush for Saturday night. Heup and Joey will name their score. We ain't in the Dooley/Butch/Pruitt years anymore friends. We didn't have a 'swamp curse', we had a 'bad coaches curse' that Heup has turned around. No way we come out of Gainesville with less than a 20 point win.
"...we had a 'bad coaches curse' that Heup has turned around." I think that is true in a lot of ways for this program, but not when it comes to playing on the road, and definitely not when playing at Florida.

Josh Heupel's record when playing at the Swamp against what was historically one of Florida's worst head coaches....0-2. I don't think you can accurately say he's turned things around when he hasn't beat them in their own house. If he loses on Saturday, especially being favored in this game again, things are going to start to become uncomfortable for him in Knoxville when the media starts to criticize and question his coaching acumen. I don't care if Florida was winless this year, this will never be a "cupcake" game. And, if he ends up losing to Vanderbilt next week at home, his seat will still be ice cold, but I think the box of matches gets pulled out of the drawer.

I’ll take Florida +19 points if you want to put your $ where your mouth is.

The Vol players & coaches don’t have any fear over playing Florida in the Swamp or wherever. But this Vol team isn’t a juggernaut, in case you somehow haven’t realized it.

And Florida is an SEC team, and can withstand some injuries. Most of their injuries aren’t brand new. Ole Miss, UGA, and Texas didn’t find Florida to be a “cupcake”.

And I don’t think Florida will mail it in against an SEC rival. If they do, great. I wouldn’t count on it, though.

Kensucky found them to be a cupcake. Their totally done for the year. Their only hope is to beat an equally terrible Florida State next week.

Also, good job being a Vol fan betting against you're own team.

Anyone who has followed UT for decades will already know we will play our worst and they will bring their best.

On season 34 of this show and every season it’s the same writers. I hope we win but this f’n team has been a thorn in our side going back to days becire the internet even existed.

This board didn’t even exist when Spurrier was whipping us.

It’s a long horrible history. The swamp is our kryptonite.

Need Joey to channel his inner Iceman.

How many starters will be out? How many impact players has Florida lost for the game? None of those defensive names seem like their impact players based on their cumulative season stats. So does it really matter if they're out or not?

Additionally, Florida will also be getting back a redshirt senior on their DL who was considered a potential NFL draft pick before getting injured earlier in the season. He apparently wanted to go last week but had a bit of lingering pain to address - well good news, he's ready to play against us this week.

That injury report may not mean as much as you think it does.
Starters:
JACK Gumbs
NT Boireau
WR-Y Brown (questionable)
QB Jones (questionable)
SS Thorton (questionable)

Most of the players on that list are not even listed in their roster.

No problem. Time for their walk ons to have Heisman performances

Uh, with all do respect Heupel didn’t turn it around in 2021 or 2023.

The teams Butch lost to won the East, except in 2017, when we went 4-8 and they went 4-7 and beat us on a Hail Mary.

We just lost to better teams. Hell, the Florida team he beat in 2016 won the East, so that was, in retrospect, an upset.

It really is a matter of losing to better teams in most cases. Tennessee fans just didn’t want to admit it. Yes, Florida was inferior in 2023, but that doesn’t make for a curse. Arkansas was inferior in 2024, but no one is taking about an Arkansas curse (look up the last time we won in Fayetteville).
Butch should have been 4-1 against Florida. It takes special talent to find a way to lose the 2014, 2015 and 2017 games. 2 were lost on Hail Marys and the other one was playing not to lose at the beginning of the game

Fulmer wasn’t as good a coach as Spurrier or Meyer. That’s why he had trouble beating them.

He was a better coach than Ron Zook. That’s why he went 2-1 against him.

It really is a matter of the coach/team being better that determines outcomes, not logos or team names.
Exactly 💯

Their blue ship ratio has been higher than ours for the past several years. This year that’s included as well. Even with their injury report, they still have a higher blue chip than ours. We will not farewell, considering our current problems.

If Lagway goes out guess who comes in to light TN up for revenge.

As many FL players out. There’s no reason TN shouldn’t win this game
Lagway won't be leaving the game. Unfortunately, we have a tendency of making struggling quarterbacks play like Heisman trophy winners.

We are gonna get the best from UF. Don’t get it twisted. They still have a talented roster and winning in the road in the SEC is extremely difficult. It’s not even close to a cupcake game. We can’t sleep walk against UF like we did NM State and expect a win. You play like that against UF, even with their injuries, and they will beat the brakes off of us.

That being said, we win.
