"Fix the mistakes"

Don't you have your own catastrophe to contend with in Gainesville? Your tallest midget, shark-humping, dental disaster is not much better than Butch.

Trust me, I know. The worst part is everyone else is so bad, that it makes his record look pretty good and he's going to stick around.

As bad as Florida is, I don't know how many games they won't be favored in.

Good post. It is our identity. Crazy thing is in the examples you listed many of the crazy stupid mistakes were atoned for by miraculous never quit plays or single play. In some of those cases we were able to recover and win the game others the mistakes caught up to us. This makes for must see TV, but has absolutely driven the fan base insane over the past 5 years.

I feel like it is poor taste for you to point this out. I don't disagree with your post. I don't want you to feel unwelcome here. Maybe it's just too soon for me.

I don't mind hearing it from 99 because he is as objective an individual as there is on VN. While he is a Gator, he has pointed their ineptitude and shortcomings many times. He does not criticize with malice, just truth. Perhaps that is the real problem.

The amazing thing is Tennessee actually won 3 of those games. One went to OT and one was lost on the final play. These were just some of the most obvious things. But some of the defensive lapses that occurred in these games where Tennessee gave up 600+ yards, they were mental. They weren't all physical.

ONE thing you have to give the staff credit for is coaching the players to not give up. Problem is CBJ and staff make bone headed calls or do not have players in the best spots to make plays. I have more faith in our players than coaches right now.

I know you didntOP but just a thought, everyone wants to compare Butch to Dabo and people say he needs more time, well when Dabo sucked did his team have this many mistakes and this bad schematically or did they just suck

His truth is just a bit too truthy for me.

The only thing Butch should be fine about is his bank account.

One of the things I pointed out to my wife yesterday was the theme we seem to be in....

...how many times do we get in the red zone and turn the ball over, whether it be a fumble or an interception. Seems I see that too frequently by our offense.

Now, how many times do we get a turnover in the red zone from other teams? That happens much less frequently.

It is almost like I hold my breath every snap in the red zone waiting for the turnover. We do that way, way, way too much.

I have seen a familiar theme from some people. “This is a good team. We’ve just got to clean up some of these mistakes”

This is off the top of my head. Keep in mind, I’m not a Vols fan here so I am sure many of you will be able to add to this.

Georgia 2015. Fumble on the 1 yard line, Georgia returns it 100 yards for a TD. That's a 14 point swing.

Florida 2016. 1st and goal from the 1 after a fumbled punt (because Florida suffers from the same kind of stupid). No points. Later with a 1st and goal from the Florida 3, Dobbs threw an interception in the endzone. And there were a slew of dropped passes in that 1st half. That’s 14 points.

Georgia 2016. Jalen Hurd fumbles on the 1 yard line (celebrating before he scored if I recall). Give up a 50 yard TD pass with 10 seconds left (not a Hail Mary). That’s 14 points.

Texas A&M 2016. 7 turnovers. Who knows how many points this prevented and/or put A&M in position to score.

There’s Florida 2017.

I know you can name things from other games and from other seasons. The point is pretty clear. This is not some sort of freak occurrence. It was not out of the ordinary. It’s what Tennessee does under Butch Jones.

For those of you who know what time it is, you know this is nothing new. But, I just wanted to point this out, because Tennessee has been giving points away to the opponent all on their own for a long time now.

This is absolutely true....CBJ and crew are the keystone cops when it comes to SEC football....:good!:

Dang it, Butch!!!

He has done just well enough to give us all a little hope yet each time I think we are about to round the corner it happens again. I've supported him but haven't been blind to the in-game bad decisions and there were so many on Saturday that I just can't look past it anymore. I agree it's probably time to move on unless he is able to nearly run the table and win the East.

I'm going to add Hurd also fumbled at Georgia in the end zone giving up game sealing TD in 2014.
I'm also going to add once Butch is fired you better hope Chip Kelly doesn't have an orange and white Brinks truck pulled up to his house....because he'd own the East as Saban owns the West. I don't think Currie is going to F...ool around with his first major hire.

So, gator, outside of being happy about the W, how does gator nation feel about Mac? Everyone has opinions about Butch, inside and outside of VN, but my personal opinion about Mac, though has won 2 SEC E titles, is that he's not a long termer for gators any more than Butch is our answer. It can't sit well w/ Gators that, though they won, were pretty much out played in most of stat categories, which probably doesn't give you the warm and fuzzy feeling for running the table in the east? Do you feel this is start of upwards trajectory, or more "modest success" that only keeps him around longer, and, like UT, keeps them from getting back to elite form?

I have friends who are Clemson grads. The term "Clemsoning" and what Dabo's problem was....was that Clemson would win a big game or be in position to do something great and then would lose to Duke. Or something of that sort.

They used to tell me that if Clemson won, it would just be to set up a loss for even greater disappointment later.

So, they would always get tripped up by an opponent they had no business losing to.

They truly stopped "clemsoning" starting in 2012. They haven't had a bad loss since except to Pitt last season. And people will kind of look past that when you eventually win the national title.

But, other than that, you have to be ranked to beat Clemson now.

I don't know. It seems like one of Tennessee's best defensive plays recently is to let a guy run wild and run him down and cause a fumble. Did it to A&M. Did it to Tech. Just did it to Florida. Never seen a team create so many fumbles 30+ yards downfield.

While it wasn't 30+ yards, did it to South Carolina in 2015 27-24 win at home too.

Those are all true...I guess I was meaning when the offense has a first down in the red zone and then do something stupid on the plays...not a long run...but I cannot disagree with your point either. We do get a high number of those as well.

I can only speak for myself. At this point, I am almost watching games without regard to the score. I am dead serious here.

I am watching them and asking is this the way it's supposed to look. Is this good football?

Year 1. Pass. It's year 1.
Year 2. Pass. You are just starting to get your guys.
Year 3. No Pass. I'm not unreasonable. I'm not expecting championship at this point. But, I think I and most of Gator nation have had it with the lack of improvement offensively.

We are not upset that we don't have an offense that looks like Spurrier's. People are upset that they don't have an offense better than 100+ in the country.

And my take is, if you are a good coach, then there should be some noticeable improvement.

There isn't any.

And so, for me, that Tennesee game had very little enjoyment. We won. But, so what? where's the program heading? Is progress being made?

I don't see it. I see better athletes on the offensive side of the ball. But, I don't see a better offense.

Like any fan, I am holding out hope that they get better as the year goes along. 1st year starting QB. yada, yada, yada.

But, I've lost faith. I don't believe anymore.

I would love to see something that changes my mind.

You are spot on and captured what most on here have been pointing out. It is sad when a Gator (😏) comes on and States what some refuse to admit to themselves. Great points brother. So let the new streak begin, dang it.

The SEC "misery loves company" club gained a new member last Sat w/ LSU. Buddy of mine distraught over being curb stomped by MSU. But, don't really care about others...someone, at some point, is going to rise in the East, and unfortunately, right now the closest is UGA...until we probably beat them in two weeks, and the SEC E stinks narrative gains new legs.

Oh, it's not just the East. If this continues at these various schools...by 2019, you will have new head football coaches at.....

Tennessee
Florida
Texas A&M
LSU
Auburn
Arkansas

Outside of Alabama, Vandy probably has the happiest fans in the conference.

Kentucky fans are excited right now, but they've seen this before. They lose to Florida and then it snowballs from there. But, at least they are enthused.
